1940 Lincoln MKZ/Zephyr Additional Info:
For Sale: 1940 Lincoln Zephyr Sedan, Serial No. H100949. I have owned this car since December of 1999. Based on the build card from the Ford Archives, it went out to a large California distributor (J.E. Coberly Inc.) after it left the factory and somehow made its way back east over the years. Black was the original color and was repainted in the same color at some point. All the glass is original except the windshield and maybe the back window. Rubber seals are pretty good all-around but probably could be replaced. The following work has been done on the car since I have owned it: all new OEM correct wiring, generator rebuilt, plug wires replaced, voltage regulator replaced, coil tested and checked, water pumps replaced, fuel pump and pushrod replaced, radiator re-cored, radio rebuilt and working with new faceplate (41 model), new Coker wide whites in 2006, front suspension refreshed, interior knobs replaced, lots of general maintenance (bulbs, brakes, oil changes, trim bits etc). Heads were changed to the cast iron postwar variety from the original aluminum. I can’t tell if the whole motor was swapped when the heads were replaced but it is still the V12 regardless. The engine runs and the car drives but it has been sitting for awhile without much use so everything needs to be gone through such as brakes, carb, tuning, etc. Mileage shown on the odometer is approx. 76,000 miles. Interior is original but the front seat is pretty worn out. The back seat and headliner are pretty good. The steering wheel plastic is cracked and separated but there are people that can recast it. The only rust I can find on the car is the driver’s side floorboard which is a little thin, and the pan beneath the radiator which is rusted on the passenger side. Needs a new muffler and a portion of the exhaust pipe going into the muffler. Car is very solid otherwise and would make a great entry into the old car hobby for someone who wants something a little different than the average Ford. Car will be need to trailered at buyer's expense.
