1956 Lincoln Continental Additional Info:

We are reducing our 20-car collection, starting with the cars that we have basically made too nice to drive. We have owned this Mark II since 1998. It has been subject to an extensive (and documented) sympathetic restoration by D&D Classic in Covington, OH. This included stripping to bare metal, repainting, replating chrome, and replacing any interior items that were not up to the overall standard that was our goal (Dash covering, front seating surfaces, etc.). Given the very low mileage, we left alone what we could, including carpet, pedal surfaces, interior trim, steering wheel, etc. Everything works, and the rebuilt 368 runs and shifts as it should.
Our efforts were rewarded with a Best in Class trophy at the 2007 Meadowbrook Concours. The only other show appearance was at Bay Harbor in Petoskey, Michigan in 2006, where no less than Tom Gale stuck his head in the window and said, "You know, they were never this straight from the factory!" The car has been driven less than 550 miles since 2010, just enough to keep everything in proper condition.
Other than a copy of the original invoice to the selling dealer in Ohio, there are only rumors from the prior seller in 1998 about the car's history, regarding possible Ford family history, and that this car was the model for the "Continental Story" book that accompanied each new Mark II, These could be researched, but we have concentrated on the car rather than the story and will leave that to the next owner. Otherwise, we have every invoice from 1998 in a 3" binder that will go with the car, along with its Meadowbrook trophy, a model, and an original "Continental Story," although not the one that came with the car.
Cars of this combination of low miles and high quality are rarely seen in the market. Condition is very close but not quite (the car has been driven, after all) to the cars that have made $150-$300k at Gooding out west (Monterrey & Scottsdale) in 2016-18, and you could not restore any $50-60k Mark II to this level without spending at least that much in total. I have priced the car at the minimum of those results less what it would cost me to go to one of the live auctions where the car might find the best market, which would also save the winning bidder a substantial buyer's premium.
If you have read this far, congratulations on your interest! The car is available for your inspection at our facility in Angola, Indiana. Questions to me through eBay, please, Thanks, and good luck with your bidding!
