You will be hard pressed to find a turn key Collector’s Series Mark V with all its accessories working as designed, which looks and runs as good as my Mark V. Oftentimes many of the lower mileage Collector’s Series cars still need work from neglect or improper storage. However, my beautiful example possesses very few flaws. I am selling this because I am an active duty Army officer and have 5 classic cars. It’s not easy to keep so many cars with moving every three years. I purchased this moonroof equipped 1979 Lincoln Continental in 2011 with 36k original miles in Denver Colorado, and I’ve driven, enjoyed, upgraded, and meticulously maintained the car for the past 7 years. The car currently has approximately 85,500 miles on it, and everything works as intended. The car also possesses the Collector’s Series umbrella, owner’s manual sleeve, toolkit, hood ornament, and correct reproduction Diamondback Classic whitewalls which came on them new.
This is not a completely original example, so I’ll discuss what’s been changed. It’s been tastefully repainted in 2015 in Porsche Atlas Gray Metallic at a cost of $4000 for the paint alone. I did the de-trimming and prep work to save money for a better overall paint job. There are a few flaws in the paint from regular wear since 2015, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed to bring it to “perfect.” At the same time the paint was done, I had the vinyl top replaced. I also had mellow sounding dual Flowmaster exhaust installed from the converters back for a very mellow rumble (fit for a luxury car of this type). The exhaust does not protrude from the back and looks stock. The dual exhaust greatly increased the power on the 400M. I also installed a Mallory HEI ignition to get rid of the trouble prone 70’s Ford brain box. Also, in the summer of 2018, I added an Edelbrock Performer EGR emission compliant intake which still looks relatively stock under the hood, and a new aluminum 4 row radiator. The car also has a summer 2018 installation of a trunk mounted hidden stereo receiver, Rockford Fosgate Amplifier, and Rockford Fosgate Speakers (all hidden to look stock). You can operate it via remote control. The stock 8 track player and radio can be played through this unit. The floor mats are custom with “continental” embroidered on them. The rear mats are original.
The interior is virtually flawless, it rides and runs smoothly and quietly, and does not leak any fluids or burn any oil. The A/C blows cold. The moonroof works as it should. The car also has the desirable thermometer equipped driver’s side mirror. The cruise control works, the seats work as designed. It passed emissions the last time it was tested. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country. Best of yet, you can listen to your tunes with a premium sound system, but still maintain the stock look of the car. The car has not been wrecked ever to my knowledge, and there's no evidence of it on the car. The undercarriage is clean and rust free except for minor surface rust here and there. As for the flaws, there are very few, but I want to be upfront. There are a few minor scratches on the header panel from normal wear, and some on the bumper fillers. Both could be painted to make the car perfect, but they are not super noticeable. I also have touch up paint which goes with the car. The brake disks shimmy sometimes when the brakes have been used a lot. I have never been able to keep a Mark V from having this happen despite having changed the discs multiple times under warranty. Sometimes the parking brake sticks on the driver side because the cable needs to be oiled. If it does get stuck it’s easy to flip it back from under the car at the caliper. It probably just needs some lube which I hadn’t gotten around to doing. The vinyl top has a few minor dime sized stains on the top along the tiara trim, which isn’t noticeable. Sometimes the driver’s side mirror wiggles out of place (cables need tightening), but when the joystick is in the right position it stays. That’s it for the not so good stuff, and it could all be fixed to make a perfect car. You could show it as is.
I really hate to get rid of this car, because as you can see, I have loved it with all my heart. It’s brought me a lot of joy, and I hope it can for you, too!
