My wife says we have too many cars. I have always wanted an early Lincoln Continental coupe. 1969 was the first year for the new Mark 3. They made about 40,000 of them. About 9000 were the nicer coupe models like this one.I purchased this 1969 Lincoln Continental Coupe with the intention of sprucing up the body, paint, and interior and keeping it long term, but my wife says the garages are full, the driveway looks crowded, and I can't rent any more storage units.
This particularexample is in good restorable shape. It appears to have new exhaust, many new front end suspension parts, new brakes, and a very tidy and nicely painted engine. I don't know if the engine has been rebuilt but it appearsas that may be the case. It starts easily and runs very well. The engine runs smooth without any engine noises. It doesn't smoke or leak any fluids. It runs cool and carries great oil pressure. It drives very straight down the road. It stops well and doesn't pull under hard braking. The transmission shifts smoothly. The car has the Mark III plate in the engine bay and the VIN plate on the driver's door.
It appears to have been painted at some point. For the most part the paint looks good and carries a nice shine. It is starting to develop some rust bubbles at the bottom of both doors as well as under the vinyl top. There is a visible rust area on the very back of the right rear quarter. Its not rusted through, but the paint is missing there. The left rear quarter panel has some moderate denting/creasing. It looks like someone got it too close to the garage door and caused some damage. There is some filler visible at spots around the rear fender wells. From 10 feet it looks very good. Up close you can tell it needs some body/rust work. There is a bit of rust around the rear deck vent. The floor panels and trunk are very solid, with no visible rust holes. The other panels are very straight and look good. The chrome and stainless trim is all there and usable. The drivers door sags a slight bit but closes fine as lone as the window isn't rolled up past it's sill. The inside of the trunk has been undercoated but is very solid. The rear bumper is very nice. the front bumper is straight but there is some surface rust on the front bottom. It should clean up with some CLR and a brillo pad.
The interior is white vinyl. The drivers seat has a few ripped seams and is missing a couple buttons. The passengers seat is nice. The rear seat has some chipping and wear. The headliner is very nice. The left upper dash has a 3 inch crack. The speedometer is a little off but works. The gas gauge is stuck on empty. The Cartier clock is non functional. The turn signal lever is broken but functional. The light monitoring system seems to work well. The wipers and climate controls work. The cruise control doesn't work. The remainder of the gauges seem to work fine. The original AM/FM stereo works well but the front speaker is crackley sounding. The wide white wall tires look to havelow miles on them. The power windows all work but a few of the driver's panel controls for the window aren't working. The power lock button isn't working. The driver's remote mirror is not functional. The forward and back power seat controls work but the up and down controls do not. The car come with two new seat motors and two new window motors. The AC runs but isn't cool. The carpet appears to have been replaced.
So what I have here is a great summer cruiser or candidate for a restoration. It seems to be a good dependable runner that needs some body, paint, and interior work. Fully restored examples are quite pricey. Get this one at a nice low price. I have done my best to list all the issues with the car, so you won't have any surprises when you get it home. Please come check it out in person or send someone to check it out. It is sold AS IS, WHERE IS.
