1973 Lincoln Continental Additional Info:

For your consideration; My daily driver 1973 Lincoln Continental Mark 4. I found the Mark 4 at an Estate Sale in Braitree Massachusetts in a heated garage where it sat for 22 years. The Story was that the elderly women went out to start her Mark 4 and there was a problem with the started and she hung up the keys and drove her husbands car and there the Mark 4 sat until I rescued it. The Mileage when I bought it was 19,343 it currently has 23,000 miles which I believe to be original. The 460 4 barrel engine is strong and runs like a dream. I would bet that a compression test would validate its actual mileage, I never had it done. I drive it daily and it starts every time even though the cold winter months. Every thing about this Mark 4 is original all the way down to the Hub Caps. Here is a list of things I have don, keep in mind that each item I repaired or replace has around 3,000 miles or less. The Mark 4 has a current Massachusetts Inspection Sticker and will have no problem getting a new sticker in August.

  • Starter
  • Set of 4 tires ( passenger tire, rides quiet and smooth)
  • New Breaks all around
  • New Master Cylinder
  • New Exhaust
  • New Radiator
  • New Battery
  • New Drive Shaft
  • New Universal Joints
  • New Pinon Seals
  • Rear Wheel Bearings
  • Complete Tune Up to Include ( Air Filter, Spark Plug Wire Set, Champion Plugs, Fuel Filter, Radiator Cap, Thermostat, Radiator Hoses Upper and Lower)
  • Replaced the Rear Shock Absorber
  • New PCV Valve

There is so many other things that I have done to get this gem to the point where it is as reliable as my 2009 Subaru Tribeca. There is more to do that I have not done as of yet but they do not affect the daily operation of the Mark 4. I have not reconnected the cruise control, the air conditioning unit has not been addressed. There is obviously rust issues but back in the 70's they undercoated a lot of vehicles, this Mark 4 has been undercoated by "Tuff Coat". Because the Mark 4 sat for so long the some of the gaskets dry out and once you start driving they need to be replaced. The valve cover gaskets need replacing and there is a small leak at the transmission housing gasket, neither of these are leaking much..
