1961 Lincoln Continental Suicide door sedan Additional Info:
1961 Lincoln Continental, with suicide doors and ONLY 21,500 documented miles. First year for the "JFK" car. This classic car is one ofthe early productio, redesigne, suicide door Continentalmodel. Afterthis carrolled out of the factory, there were 6 modifications made in mid production, makingthis one veryrare. The early items that can be seen on this car are as follows--- Early 61 cars had steering columns mounted lower to the seat. All early cars had concealed clips retaining the door handles. The chrome horn ring on early cars was under the steering wheel spokes, the rest were on top.. On cars with factory air, an additional drop down vent was added along the top on allBUT the earliest models. Early production units had more extensive use of leather for seat side panels, and later cars instead used matching vinyl in these areas, a change that continued from that point forward, with few exceptions, A guide was added to the hood latch on later production cars, and was not included on the earlier ones. This early car also has power steering, power brakes, power door locks, cold air conditioning, power windows, 6 way power seat. Most ofwhich was an option in 1961 making this a well optioned car. The Air Condition option includes the optional hidden vent system in the dash. With a push of a button, it unfolds downward to display an adjustable set of vents.Thisis very rust free car which is very important for a uni-body frame system. The car was put into dry storage in the 1990s and brought out this spring. This a very original car with 21,500 original miles that can be documented by the receipts in the glove box. I have been driving this car after doing much service related work. It still has old school bias ply tires with the large whitewallsin good condition. Interior is in very nice condition and appears to be original. There is a discolor or stain on passenger carpet. The trunk is very nice with all liners and factory stickers intact. The clock is disconnected because it runs too fast and needs recalibration. Theexhaust had the wrong resonators installed behind the rear axle. Important note is that before trying to start the car, we replaced the fuel tank, Cleaned all the fuel lines and carburetor, drained and replaced the engine oil, replaced the plugs and points, filters, battery. etc. Runs, drives, shiftsand stops good. Lights all work. Air Conditioner is serviced and recharged and blows cold. Electricseat works. Gauges all work. Truly a nice car. If I were to keep it, I would replace theBias Ply tires with radialsjust for the ride and safety.
