1971 Land Rover IIA 88 Series Additional Info:
1971 Land Rover IIA 88 Series. Condition is Used. I bought this non-running with supposedly a bad clutch. After some motor tinkering and clutch slave cylinder repair I had a sweet running little 4 cylinder that sounded as smooth as a Singer sewing machine. Job and life changed and it never moved up on the project list. I did however crank it 2 or 3 times a year and drive it around the farm. The brakes were not working and I never investigated or repaired them. I just used the hand brake, Trans and 4 wheel drive work fine. Hill climbing gear ratio is better than some of my other 4WD vehicles. It has some bumps and bruises on the body with flaking paint. The windows slide channels are rusted out. The bulk head is pretty good shape with some deterioration on the passenger side. There is a ding in passenger front corner roof edge. Pics show that the outriggers are in real good shape with only surface rust. But the real heart breaker is that when I went to crank it this May, the engine is locked up. I removed the starter and tried to bar over the engine with no success. If lucky, its just carbon build up. I can't fathom that it mechanically failed (i.e. valve drop). Never any ticking or any engine noise whatsoever. Have been soaking the cylinders with Marvel Mystery oil. Either way, as of now, non-runner. Tires are new but dry rotted and not highway worthy. Radiator not leaking but has a gouged out area. Hood, er, make that bonnet, has a driver side edge poorly repaired crack. Pictures pretty much tell the story. I'm guessing 98% original complete truck. Mileage is supposed to be original. I can only guess whether that is correct.Need $200 deposit payment in about two business days.
