1991 Land Rover Defender 110 Spectre 007 Edition Additional Info:
Neither the term "special edition" nor "SUV" seem adequate here. This 1991 Land Rover Defender 110 Spectre 007 is a jaw dropping display of skillful customization. It was built to wow both onlookers and fellow exhibitors at SEMA shows - not the easiest crowd to impress, so the bar for curb appeal was set very high. From front to back and inside and out, it sports an array of upgrades that not only demand your attention, but also make for an outstanding driving experience. Looking for the ultimate off road machine? Here it is.
The matte black paint that's now draped over the exterior is just one of many signs that this is no ordinary Land Rover. It's outfitted like no other of its kind, featuring an array of unique features to denote its special status. Up front, a pair of extra powerful LED headlights are recessed into a custom Santorini grille below the Puma hood and the Warn Zeon winch mounted on the bumper serves notice that this one of a kind ride is about more than just visual impact. The steel storage rack above the cabin spans the entire roof and the quad front spotlights stand ready to light the way on even the darkest of trails. Metal armor plates mounted at strategic points on the exterior offer protection from any damaging hazards that might be encountered, and the checkered accents over the side sills and wing plates really pop against their black background. You won't soon find another vehicle that's as rugged yet stylish as this one anytime soon.
Judging from the uncreased, smooth surfaces of the two-tone gray seating, they haven't seen much use. In back of the two rows of bucket seats is a pair of additional benches facing each other, mirroring the accommodations of its classic predecessors. There are outstanding features wherever you look - the customized and reimagined dash area carries a bevy of fresh gauges that sit behind the properly British right-hand steering wheel, with the center section featuring a sizable Alpine media display to keep a read on both the modern AM/FM stereo with iPod connectivity and the sightings of the backup camera. The air conditioning blows strong and cold through the set of 4 in dash vents and a thorough amount of sound deadening and heat insulation material sits underneath the carpeting for a surprisingly comfortable and quiet ride.
A swapped in 300 TDI engine with an estimated 72,500 miles takes center stage in the engine compartment having replaced the original 200 TDI. Armed with a cold air intake for some extra power, it starts right up and has a very healthy idle. It pairs with a 5-speed manual transmission that's optimally geared for the powerplant's output, with the lever to engage the surefootedness of four wheel drive within very easy reach of the driver. The overall driving experience this Land Rover offers is very impressive - it's running great and drives with a smoothness you likely wouldn't expect from a ride featuring its 16" Beadlock-style wheels and their sizable 37" Maxxis Trepador tires. Power brakes that feature discs in front will bring it to a stop in short order and its power steering is light but responsive for easy navigating. Not surprising, considering the attentive care it's received, the undercarriage on this outstanding off-roader appears solid and straight.
