This is an extremely rare, ex British military defender. This example went through the Ministry of defense's (MoD's) Project Tithonis, and is therefore completely different from all other ex MoD Defenders.
Project Tithonis was a cost saving measure by the MoD. Rather than buying new vehicles, they selected only the best Defenders in service, and refurbished them to extend their life for at least another 10 years, and bring them up to current health and safety standards.
Refurbishments included:
A complete bare metal respray of body and chassis, fitting a full military roll-cage, wheels, upgraded disc brakes and tires, a full engine refurbishment of the 2.5 Liter Diesel and 5 speed LT77 gearbox and transfer case, and the addition of ABS, traction control and air conditioning.
Some of these vehicles were then sold off due to downsizing, including this one. This means it never saw service after its rebuild, which is why the chassis is still in brilliant condition.
There is almost no rust, and the very little there is is entirely surface rust, and doesn't affect the frame. Any and all rust on this vehicle is visible in the photos attached.
This vehicle is also an FFR (Fitted for radio) model, which includes further military spec upgrades.
Altogether this is an incredible example of classic British military history, and undoubtedly one of the most formidable off road vehicles ever built. To this day, Defenders still outclass modern off-road vehicles with ease.
This vehicle will likely hold its value, as the Tithonus vehicles were a limited run of defenders, and on top of that, the new 2019 Defender being released will almost certainly increase demand for Defenders such as this.
Whether you're a collector, or want something you can throw around trails all day, this is an astonishing vehicle.
