1967 NADA 109” Station Wagon
#387 of 811 made.
Summary: Vehicle purchased by my father in 1985 from the 2nd owner in Florida; passed down to me in 1997. Frame off restoration in 2001. Rear crossmember and front horns replaced and all other areas of frame inspected before hot dip galvanizing. Bulkhead, radiator support, and middle door structural frames also hot dip galvanized. All trim was rust free and not re-galvanized. Door skins removed from each door and door frames repaired and painted. Original type wiring harness custom made with adapter for alternator conversion (35Amp Lucas alternator). Original 2.6L engine rebuilt and runs very strong. Transmission, transfer case, and front differential also rebuilt. (Rear axle is a Salisbury, installed in the 90's and did not require rebuilding.) Vehicle is painted with a DuPont single stage paint in the original Pastel green color (note, sill panels were the last things painted and the paint mixer accidentally made the batch too dark. I didn't think they looked bad, so went ahead and installed them like that). Paint has held up well for 17 years, but has a few blemishes. There are also some minor dents and dings here and there.
Engine / Transmission: Both rebuilt and in good condition. Spin on oil filter adapter. Oil pressure gauge added. Fairey overdrive fitted. Typical minor British oil leaks from engine / t-case. Valves adjusted less than 100 miles ago. Shortened exhaust. Stainless Borla muffler, sounds amazing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keYNccW6RsM). Petronix ignition (no points to mess with). Lucas sport coil. Magnecor plug wires. Beru Ultra-X spark plugs. Derale electric radiator fan with aluminum shroud (with adjustable kick on temp).
Wheels / Tires / Suspension: Original rims powdercoated gloss white (several years ago). Brand new Yokohama Geolandar A/T tires in 235-85 R16 x5. Frame bushings replaced last year with poly bushings. Rocky mountain parabolic springs and u-bolts and Old Man Emu shocks (in 2001). Original Warn M11 front freewheel hubs.
Brakes: Custom front disc brake conversion, using Mazda components (1995, 929 rear discs and calipers). New master cylinder (Land Rover). New remote brake booster (same as original Land Rover one, but mounted under passenger footwell). Wilwood proportioning valve. New rear wheel cylinders. Stainless front brake flex lines. (I have all the original front drum components if you ever want to go back to stock.)
Fuel: Brand new fuel tank (S3 type), sender, electric fuel pump, and filter fitted in spring 2017.
Interior: Original style Exmoor elephant hyde door panels fitted all around in summer 2017. Custom fold down middle seats also added with underseat storage. Driver and passenger seats replaced in 2001. Middle seat up front and cargo area bench seats are original.
Miscellaneous Accessories: Optima Battery. Fire engine siren. Hadley air horn (from a Euclid earth mover)(these are the best sounding air horns ever made). Vintage spotlight (was fitted when originally purchased; but currently not lighting, could be wiring or bulb issue). Custom 1/4” thick aluminum bumper (Note, if new owner does not want this bumper, I will refund the purchaser the amount needed to purchase a stock one, and remove it.)
Minor issues: Safety belts not fitted, but mounts were made for 3 point belts. Speedometer quit a few hundred miles ago, could be a cable but could also be the gauge. Overhead interior light not fitted. I have it somewhere, but it got misplaced during a move, will do my best to find it before the auction closes. Note on the brakes: The front brakes were custom adapted to improve the stopping performance over the original front drums (which they do quite nicely). I have done my best to tune them and they are working well. That said, they have not been tested on snow, ice, or very much in the rain. It is the new owner's responsibility to ensure that they are performing up to your satisfaction/safety level and to adjust them according to your driving style/road conditions.
Spare parts available with purchase if desired:
Stock 11” front drums and backing plates.
Original aluminum air cleaner elbow (note, I do not have the steel air cleaner housing itself).
Spare distributor cap, spare gaskets, and a few other service parts.
The last two photos show the Land Rover pre-restoration. The very last photo is the oldest photo I have of the Land Rover and it was taken in the mid 80's in the Smoky Mountains. We lost the brakes coming down from the mountain, man was that interesting. That was about the most nervous I have ever seen my dad.
Another time (mid 90's), we were headed down an old gravel road and came upon two guys covered in mud. They waved and smiled like they had seen an angel! We gave them a lift a mile up the road to where they had buried their Tacoma in a field up to the frame. They had been trying to dig it out for three hours. They jumped out and we backed down into the same muck that they were in with them yelling “No, No, Stop, you'll get stuck too!” We shrugged, hooked up a tow rope, and pulled them out. The Rover popped that Taco out like a bad burrito, and you never saw two happier guys in your life!

Vehicle is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to end the auction early (but I will try not to do that). Personal inspections available by appointment only.
I built this Rover to last a lifetime and while I love it dearly, I am almost too sentimental about it to use it as it needs to be (curator vs. owner dilemma, because it is such a piece of history). But I have to move on to other projects and I need the space (and funds) for those projects.
