Land-Rover Series III Long wheelbase GS (or “General Service”, indicating full-canvas-top configuration) Two-door Soft top. Has original tailgate (without the characteristic dent in the centre rib). The entire body was soda blasted to white metal inside and out, then fully resprayed in the original factory Deep Bronze Green, single stage acrylic enamel and garaged ever since. Awesome 5-main-bearing 4-cylinder engine is in exceptionally fine condition. (One of the quietest engines we’ve ever heard)Excellent, sound, rugged drive line. Very straight body work. Virtually new all cotton, “Sand”, canvas top (with all solid brass fittings) which has always been garaged, except for shows, since new, and is in fine originalcondition, with good, clear vinyl windows. Twin Defender factory boomerang door mirrors. Good seats. (Currently offered as received, with front seats, but with a full compliment of optional seats this truck can carry ten.) All wheels on the ground have been freshly sandblasted and painted in Limestone ( white). Perfect electricals throughout. Starts right on the button every time. Professional restoration completed in 2013 by the winner of approximately 60 international prizes. 76,275 miles showing and credible in our professional opinion. This vehicle is ¾-ton specification and full heavy-duty military spec throughout.Military oil cooler.Twin fuel tanks. Military instrumentation. Military twin-fan-belt system with eight-bladed tropical fan and military oil cooler.Fitted with Salisbury extreme-duty rear axle (for you Americans, this is the approximate equivalent of a Dana 60) and military spec front axles as well. Also fitted with the original Lucas military-spec lamps. Heavy-duty (but people-friendly/comfortable) rear springs and raised shackles all around. Every piece of “galv” has been removed, hot dipped in molten zinc and refitted. This is an ex-FFR, or “Fitted for radio” vehicle and as such, is 24 volt throughout. It is also right-hand drive and is a brilliant driving machine. Similar to many of the Land-Rovers restored by Dare Britannia, Ltd., this is an exceptional machine and would easily find its place in the top 5 percentile points of all early Land-Rovers in North America. Nice, tight steering and the doors close nicely with a lovely thunk. Correctly and legally imported for the U.S. market.Serious offers welcome. Call Dare Britannia for more details or questions about this or other vehicles or parts for sale,360-866-2254, or e-mailcharlesk@darebritannia.com.
While this truck is being offered as a soft-top model, we stock other roofs such as the full-length Safari type, the pickup cab, the pickup cab with canvas rear top, camper roof, etc. These conversions typically take a brief time and can be carried out either at our premises or after the vehicle is purchased. Of course, as the images show, this rig can be driven topless, with the windshield folded flat.
Some of the images provided are of similar vehicles and are intended to show some of the various body variantsand configurations that are possibleby simply removing one roof and fitting another. This makes this truck one of the most versatile bodies Land-Rover ever offered.
If camping is your passion, the bed of this truck can easily accommodate people taller than six feet, stretched out in comfort with a good mattress.
