1980 Land Rover Defender Additional Info:
Attention! This truck is a 1989 however Ebay's VIN system won't read it correctly. It is NOT a 1980.
1989 Land Rover Defender 110 LHD 2.5 TDI High Capacity Pickup. Clear Florida title. Appears to have been imported from Italy as there were was a parking pass with Italian script on it. This is a very rare truck and in great original condition with just the right amount of patina.
I will walk you around the truck as I see it.
- Exterior: All original paint on the all aluminum body. There is no rot of any kind and no signs of any accident repair ever. It does have some dents and scratches in the bed from use. There are a few dings in the tailgate, and one broken tailgate hinge. All of the glass is original. Every light works, the doors open and close nicely and from 10 ft. away it looks brand new. I put this defender up on my lift and pressure washed the entire underside. It is nearly flawless. Only minor surface rust on a few components, no rot whatsoever. I would rate the exterior an 8 out of ten. It is a great survivor!
- Interior: The original driver and passenger seats have been replaced with some very nice cloth bucket seats, the middle jump seat is original. The door panels are nice, the windows work nicely. There is some staining on the headliner but it's very presentable. The metal battery cover is missing under the drivers seat and the black plastic dash has a couple of cracks. I am probably overstating the negatives a bit. It's actually in great condition for it's age and would need very little to be perfect. I would rate it a 7 out of 10
- Mechanical: This is where this truck shines. The 2.5 TDI engine fires right up and purrs like a kitten, Everything functions as it should. The steering and braking are exceptional. No noises, warning lights or overheating. 4x4 components are exceptional. It has what appears to be newer Michelin tires on original Land Rover wheels. The odometer reads 127XXX km's which translates in to approx. 79000 miles. It does have power steering and power brakes. I would rate it a 9.5 out of 10 mechanically.
- Overall: This is a gem of a Land Rover that is ready to enjoy as it. I've read that a lot of these have had botched restorations. I'm no Land Rover expert but I know a good vehicle when I see it. This one is exceptional and quite a well kept survivor for an almost 30 year old diesel 4x4 pickup of any kind. If I had to guess, this truck lived a pretty charmed life perhaps as a grounds maintenance truck and certainly stored inside with very little road use. I would rate is a very strong 8,5 out of 10 overall.
This truck is a clean slate for an enthusiast to make his own as it is the most original one I've seen anywhere. Or it could be enjoyed immediately the way it is with little fuss. I've noted all flaws I could find and it is missing a spare tire. I've seen these sell for crazy money with all types of accessories. I feel this one has value in it's originality.
