land rover santana 1980 lhd left hand drive $5000 ( so plenty of funds left for upgrades.)original chassis.original engine, transmission and axles.vin number stamped into chassis.running gear has been rebuilt over the years.body painted several times over the years..all original panels.important things1. this is a 5 bearing 2250 cc diesel engine. sooooo much better than the earlier unbalanced 3 bearing unit.instant starter- non smoker. lots of power. recent 1800 mile journey from spain to uk.2. dual circuit booster brake system.brakes just been checked and replaced where necessary. no fred flintstone stopping here.3. modern electrics with no cut wires or crimps..hazard warning lights. modern pre engaged starter.3. modern clutch. nice and easy. gearbox has just been stripped and rebuilt due to a failed overdrive unit(they really are useless--what engineer designed gears that live out of oil must have been drunk) this gearbox is oil tight and faultless. all 4x4 hi low and mud plugging.4. steering is light and polite. yes believe it..when land rovers are set up and looked after properly they are nice...lhd even nicer..same as 911 or vw golfs in uk..5. all panels are alloy. as per original. front screen surround has been twisted in the past and roof top repaired..these will be changed before sale.6. seats will be replaced with nice used ones.2 or 3 .(can supply new at cost 2, 3,5 or 7 seats)7. towbar and electrics very strong.8. history is, one owner all its life, the oldest municiple council in spain. would have been the surveyers vehicle new..then handed down to all duties including road works later on in life..remember in 1980 this was a huge investment..my friend purchased the twin vehicle off the council which i still have hear...and was contacted recently by the council to say they other land rover in storage will be up for sale..it has a failed transmission...turned out to be the overdrive.. but the gearbox was taken out...clutch parts replaced and gearbox parts where needed..its a very nice transmission..no screaming no bad synchros..easy 4x4 changes..proper job..i was booked to collect..so the alloy floors where refitted and not bolted down properly and some tidying required..but i flew in and drove to the boat and home. its had several brake bits and a service before my trip including the fan belt which he always changes for me..the spare wheel is very good and comes with new jack and wheel brace.proper thing..
observations from a 58 year young engineer who does not require your funds to rob you.the price seems low...its not...its just not inflatedlike some..its the same vehicle...if not better than some of your advertised $20,000 usd vehicles advertised...i know this...as i probably supplied most of them in the past..
1. it does not photograph very well...minus 5 here in uk and horrid amp does not help.2. awaiting some fixings for the floors..do like to buy the proper things..so some floor not fitted in photos.3. seats...i will supply 2 or 3 used seats in nice condition..but as photos using the originals while it sits here.4. no corrosion in alloy-unlike uk vehicles including defenders...5. no chassis issues what so ever..no previous damage or repairs evident or required. one outrigger to rear is thin so i will brace it before sale..towbar is strong strong..can also supply the trailer light coupling to suit.6. would pull a much bigger wheel tyre ratio. these 5 bearing engines are nice and torquey for what they are..it would easily pull a wolf wheel and big tyre...or something tubeless and modern would give ride a hand..7. i have my own parabolic springs made for me by top old school engineers..matching set stuff..i can supply these as a kit with new U BOLTS and nuts.. either supply or fit as well...buyers choice..price doubles if fitted..worth the $800 usd supplied and fitted as they give a smoother controlled ride...smooth if your talking land rover..again buyers choice but i do know what i am talking about..8. nothing in uk is expensive (except canvas roof and fitting kits) for series land rover..so upgrading makes sense..9. if your going roro ferry boat...no parts are allowed to be stored in vehicle...however i have in the past made a false floor in the rear so it is part of the vehicle..so the floor can be loaded with parts..10. if going shared container..as long as one has a manifest of parts included with vehicle..their is no charge for extra shipping and one can load the land rover right up..spare wheels and tyres..anything.11. this will not be advertised again..i have just sold my other two santana over last 10 days and i am never without one.. so if this does sell...and by god it should at this value..i will be forced to buy another from my friend who will be forced to locate what i buy..which is low owner original vehicles..i dont mind..dents work or scruffy...i do mind....smarmy sellers-bondo and shiny resprays..
if its a station wagon you require. this is one. however..land rover are only nuts and bolts.so if you require a pick up- utility type-convertible-bikini top- canvas top ...just ask can help at cost..
