1988 Lamborghini Countach Additional Info:
This 1988 Lamborghini Countach is one of 610 QV models produced and spent its first 25 years in Florida and Georgia before later returning to Florida, where it was acquired by us, the seller, from The Barn Miami in 2016. Finished in red over a black leather interior, the car now shows 31,500k kilometers (~19,600k miles) and is powered by a 5.2L quad-cam V12 paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Service in 2015 and 2017 totaled over $28k and included rebuilding the clutch, converting the air conditioning to R134 refrigerant, and adjusting the injection system. The fuel injectors were also replaced along with the rear main seal, water pump seal, clutch slave cylinder, oil pump seals, spark plug wires, distributor seals, and more as outlined below. This Countach is now offered with recent service records, a clean Carfax report, owner’s manuals, tools, and a clean Florida title.
Introduced as a prototype in 1971, the Countach was designed by Bertone’s Marcello Gandini with angular wedge-shaped styling and scissor doors. Aluminum bodywork is mounted over a tubular steel spaceframe, and production versions feature NACA ducts aft of the doors along with prominent air intakes above the rear quarters. The 5000 QV variant utilizes Kevlar front and rear deck lids, and straked brake vents are integrated into the rocker panels of US-market cars.
This example is finished in red and is said to show evidence of various touch-ups, as well as chips, cracks, and other imperfections in the paint. Closeups of the finish, panel gaps, and lenses are provided in the photo gallery below, including images of the popup headlights and V-shaped rear wing. A scuff on the left rear wheel arch was incurred during a recent parking mishap and is shown close up in the gallery.
Two-piece 15” OZ wheels wear Pirelli tires measuring 225/50 up front and 345/35 out back. US-market rear lighting is retained, though both the front and rear of the car are absent of rubber safety bumpers. The interior is trimmed in black leather with matching carpets and branded floor mats, and additional equipment includes a leather-wrapped Raid steering wheel, a gated shifter, power locks, and a cassette stereo. The factory air conditioning system was converted to use R134 refrigerant in 2015. A new receiver/dryer installed at that time, and an A/C service was performed in 2017.
Instrumentation includes a 320-km/h speedometer and a 9k-rpm tachometer. The six-digit odometer shows just over 31,500 kilometers (~19,600k miles), 1k of which have been added by the seller. The dashboard has been signed by Valentino Balboni, the longtime chief test driver for Lamborghini. The Giotto Bizzarini-designed 5.2-liter V12 features a 60° cylinder bank angle, four valves per cylinder, and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. It produced 414 horsepower when new, which is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission mounted in the middle of the car, ahead of the engine. Service completed by Prestige Imports of North Miami Beach, Florida in 2017 included adjusting the CIS, flushing the clutch and brake hydraulics, and rebuilding the alternator. A new clutch slave cylinder was also installed along with new distributor seals, water pump seal and shaft bearing kit, drive axle gaskets, front hood lift cylinder, and passenger door lift cylinder.
A 2015 service at Exotic Motors in Clearwater, Florida totaled over $21k and included rebuilding the clutch, checking the valve clearances, changing the fluids, and installing the following new parts:
- Fuel injectors
- Spark plug wires
- Rear main seal
- Rear main cover gasket
- Oil pump seals
- Intake manifold o-rings
- Valve cover gaskets
- Camshaft cap seal
- Hoses
- Exhaust manifold and other exhaust gaskets
- Air and fuel filters
- Trunk struts
The Carfax report is free of accidents or other issues, and shows registration in Florida, Georgia, Missouri, and New Jersey.
