Up for bid is a 1988 Jeep Cherokee, Pioneer edition with 178,450 original miles.I’m the second owner vehicle and I purchased it from a friend that bought it brand new in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on August 13, 1987, for $18601.25.I still have the original sale invoice, however no window sticker. After 7 years, the vehicle was moved to Colorado where it has spent its remaining life. The complete history is known, and this was extremally well maintained with regular oil changes and periodic maintenance per Jeep recommendations. The vehicle has never been repainted and now has a patina about it.This sale is for both the vehicle as well as several parts to aid in the restoration. The Jeep has a clear title.
I’m selling this project to make room for another project I'm working on.My project vision for this Jeep was a RestoMod with original body/new paint, stock interior, as well as a period correct lift.As such, it currently has a 2–3-inch suspension lift with slightly larger than stock tires along with lots of goodies underneath. See details below for more information.
The 4.0L Engine, transmission and differentials (non-Posi traction) are all stock and original. There is a small oil leak from the engine with a couple of drips a day.The AC does not work. The Jeepruns and drives good.It passes Colorado’s stringent emissions testing with flying colors.I just had it tested and have the new certificate and it’s on file with the Colorado DMV database.
The engine has brand new spark plugs, distributor cap/rotor, and O2 sensor.Additional Jeep upgrades include a brand-new fuel tank, fuel pump and catalytic converter.A new U-joint and wheel hub were just upgraded on the left front drivetrain.
New suspension upgrades included brand new "Fox" shocks all around as well as new “Old Man Emu” rear leaf springs.Up front there is “Rusty’s Offroad” Offroad lift springs, and tubular trailing arms. There are also steering upgrades with a “Red head” steering gear box, drop pitman arm, and a “Rusty’s Offroad” tie rod steering system. There are brand-new front brake rotors and pads.Factory rims have been powder coated and have Mickey Thompson “Deegan 38”. 235/75 R15.The tire date codes are 1618.
The interior is all original right down to the sagging headliner. It is a time capsule to 1988 and is 100% stock. The seats are in good shape; however, the driver seat has been patched a couple of times. The carpet has a couple of wear spots down by the feet. The dash is in great shape as well as the door panels. There is one small crack on the driver’s door armrest. For being 37 years old, the interior is in exceptional shape. It even has the original radio; however, the buttons are a bit worn. The spare tire jack is missing.
The body is in fair shape, however, has rust areas behind the rear tires (see photos).New rear quarter panels are included with the sale (not installed). It’s a Colorado vehicle so the frame (Subframe) is in great shape and rust-free.The front fenders have been trimmed slightly and can accept a 30.5-inch tire. The front passenger door has a couple of rust spots, and one rust spot is all the way through.Included is a spare door that can be used for replacement or parts. The rear passenger door has a few small dents from door dings. The chrome is in good shape, however there is a couple of hail dents in the driver’s side windshield pilar chrome. The roof rack is in good shape; however, the rubber underlay needs to be replaced. The badges are also showing their age as well as a lot of the plastic and rubber trim with fading and cracking. The paint is original and the clearcoat is peeling or has peeled off on a good portion. The roof has some patina with minor surface rust in a couple of areas.
It has been in one accident ~5 years ago and someone ran into the driver side rear bumper and quarter panel. The subframe and quarter panel were professionally pulled out.The rear quarter is a bit wrinkled a bit however there is a new quarter panel included with the sale (not installed). As a result of the accident a used bumper was installed. There is a new bumper included with the sale (not installed). The used bumper has a hitch; however, it is missing a cross member in order to tow.I was going to change out the bumper to the new one which does not have the provisions for a hitch.
Loose parts included with the sale:
Used Front Passenger Door
New Right and Left Rear Quarter Panels
New Right and Left Front Inner Fenders
New Cargo Floor Panel
I'm selling it as is and there is no warranty. Overall, the jeep has good bones and will make a great project. I regret having to sell it, however I’m glad it will be going to a new home that can keep it on the road.

Please note that there is a discrepancy on the vehicle history report on the "Title check" field. It lists that there is a "Major Issue" which is furthest from the truth. I have a clean standard Colorado title and there is restrictions or liens. I went to the Colorado DMV this week (March 17th, 2025) and verified with them that the title I have is indeed clean and the most up to date. Please bid in confidence that there is no title issues or concerns.

Sorry, typo on additional description above on "I have a clean standard Colorado title and there is restrictions or liens." I left out the "NO". It should read "I have a clean standard Colorado title and there are NO restrictions or liens. Big difference. Again there are no title issues.
