1983 Jeep CJ7 For consignment, a CJ, (Civilian Jeep), version 7 from 1983. This green meanie has a hankering for some real off-roading and is fully equipped to do so with add ons to immerse yourself into. Here we go! Climb every mountain... Let's get a little mud on the tires. Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area. Exterior Dark ivy green covers the grille, hood, doors and side panels of this social climber. The panels are rough, showing some underlying rust, bubbles, paint fade and undulating of the steel. The Jeep's doors, fender edges and hardtop are in black, which also shows some rusting, dripping of corrosion on the door handles into the paint, and overall slight fading. There is also a soft top and bikini top that goes with this 4x4 as well as a car cover. In front there is a black bumper and perched on it are some extra KC caged protected lighting and a Warn M8274 winch. Photos show the flywheel and aluminum covering on the side of the winch are corroded but there is plenty of pulling wire to go around. Black painted side view mirrors hang off of each side. In back a swinging spare tire is mounted to the rear tailgate, and above is a lifting door for access to the upper interior. Below is another black steel bumper and some mud flaps as well as a hitch. More KC cages for the tail lights are here too. 15-inch blackened spoked wheels are wrapped with good condition knobby rubber all terrain tires. Interior As we make our way through the black doors and entry, we go past black painted steel for the sills and uppers and where the inset actuators are inserted. Below is black vinyl with some vertical tuck and roll and extra padding. We can perch on top of one of 2 high back buckets covered in black vinyl. In back, a small bench is mounted in. Surrounding this seating area is a roll cage complete with padding and some speakers above the headrests so you can't miss the sound coming from them. Between the buckets is a Tuffy metal lock box console/armrest. Also, the shifters are here too. Upfront, a black padded vinyl dash top is in and it is riddled with cracks. Below is a straight vertical all green painted steel dash front. It is overwhelmed with various gauges knobs and pulls and warning lights. From the dash is a Grant GT rally wheel. Below the dash is an animal noise sound generator for communicating with the wild things out there. Also, a Jeep AM/FM radio is in. The floors are rubber and fairly dirty and in back, a surface rusted bed is under and behind the bench cozying up to the tailgate. The headliner for the hard top is white. Note, the AC compressor can be converted to an air compressor. Drivetrain As I loosen the front lockdowns, and raise the hood, I am greeted with a slightly dusty engine bay, a gaggle of wires and hoses and a 360ci V8 which was rebuilt in 2014. It has been bored .040 over and is topped by a single Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. This is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. In front there is a Dana 30 axle, and on back an Dana 20 axle and in the middle a Dana 300 twin stack transfer case. The consignor states the Jeep has a new clutch and pressure plate. It is a dual battery setup with an isolator. Undercarriage Underneath matches the body with some evidence of flooring and frame repairs along with a few areas of invasive rust still showing on the frame. I can see Moser 1 piece rear axles, sway bar disconnects, and leaf springs for all the suspension. Power disc brakes are upfront and power drums for the back. There are no catalytic converters on the dual side exit exhaust. Drive-Ability This fearless beast started right up and was ready to climb the walls, (not unlike myself here sometimes), and anything else we had here at Classic Auto Mall that it could drive over. So I took it to the test track and everything was functioning beautifully. Good acceleration, plenty of power, all gearing 2 and 4 wheel drives were working. The seats are comfy and the roll bar gives me a sense of security and the stereo sound is good and loud right in my ear. Ribbbbit said the sound generator. Don't be afraid of some of the rough spots on this vehicle, as it is a worker and adventurer. Put to good use and there is still plenty in its bones to go and explore and not be afraid to actually scrape a branch or kick up a rock or two. I see so many of these 4x4 trailer queens in here and I think to myself where are you going to take that and not mess it up? This one definitely dispels the myth of big hat no cattle. Take it anywhere you want and it will go through it, maybe a little worse for the wear, but you'll be having fun. Go ahead be a trailblazer!.. oh, and where it will not go, use the winch! 1JCCM87E2DT023574 1-USA J-Jeep C-MPV C-258ci Inline 6 Cylinder M-4 Speed Manual 87-CJ7 E-4150 GVWR 2-Check Digit D-1983 T-Toledo, OH Assy Plant 023574-Sequential Unit Number Classic Auto Mall is a 336,000-square foot classic and special interest automobile showroom, featuring over 850 vehicles for sale with showroom space for up to 1,000 vehicles.
