An older Jeep improvised with a modern heart and other running gear is in the offing at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. This totally restored and re-imagined Jeep is fresh showing only 69 miles since it's rebuild.
This Willy Jeep CJ-5 has undergone a frame-off restoration. Dressed in the traditional Olive Green, the paint and trim are in overall very good order. The bodywork is straight and solid and the black, rod-type bumpers fit tightly to the body. The lights have been upgraded to LED units. There is a custom roll cage and a relocated fuel tank. The entire body has been Rhino-lined in a custom color and up front is a Warn VR8000-S front winch.
The Jeep rolls on Goodyear Wrangler Duratec light truck tires, size LT285/70R17 at all four corners and each tire is mounted on a black, eight-hole alloy wheel. The wheels and tires are all in very good order. A rear-mounted, full-sized spare tire with cover completes the tires.
Under the hood is a modern Ford 289 CID V-8 engine with fuel injection, MSD spark plug wires and a custom exhaust. The engine is backed by a three-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case.
Inside, the new black, low-back front bucket seats and rear bench are in overall very good order. There are mats instead of carpet. The aftermarket, flat-bottom steering wheel and shifter ball remind the driver and passengers that it's a 1955 model Jeep. The steering wheel is in great shape and it is to the left of a full array of Classic Instruments gauges that are framed. A floor-mounted shifter completes the interior. A new bikini top will shade you from the mid-day sun.
In October 11, 1954, Kaiser announced the arrival of the CJ-5, and featured softer styling lines, including rounded body contours based on the 1952 Korean War M-38A1. It marked a significant departure from the "flat-fender" CJs, with its rounded front fender design and squeezed grille to accommodate larger headlights. The hood and body were made of heavy-gauge sheetmetal; a larger windshield frame; increased length on the riding springs; form-fitting, adjustable front bucket seats; a deeper, back-lit instrument panel; rear seating options for four passengers; and a new take of handbrake located to the left of the driver underneath the instrument panel.
The CJ-5 was better on every front: it was stronger, more comfortable, more versatile, and more off-road capable. It was slightly larger than the CJ-3B, as it featured an increased wheelbase and overall length. Improvements in engines, axles, transmissions and seating comfort made the 81-inch-wheelbase CJ-5 an ideal vehicle for the public's growing interest in off-road vehicles.
If you're a Jeep fan, this is one of the more unique 4x4s you'll ever come across. Do yourself a favor and visit MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check out this CJ-5!
