1979 Jeep CJ Additional Info:
I purchased this CJ7 from a family member of the original owner earlier in the year in Mesa, AZ. Based on the information I received from the seller, this Jeep spent its life on a farm in Mesa, AZ. It is completely rust free, except for the isolated area behind the rear passenger seat. When I bought the Jeep, it had damp carpet still in it. I removed the carpet and seats, pressure washed the tub, and you'll see that overall this Jeep has great virgin metal. Though it does not need immediate attention, should you decide to later replace this rear floorboard, it is by far the easiest floorboard on CJs to replace (much easier than front floors).
What's special about this Jeep? It's a true "H-code" 304 AMC Jeep. The term "H-code" denotes that 7th letter designator in the VIN that denotes the V8 304 motor. The motor runs very strong, but I'll be honest and say I've only driven this Jeep a few miles. It did not overheat or have any noticeable driveline/engine issues. It's not a big project by any means, but you may find yourself spending a few weekends changing fluids, fixing small leaks, etc. Also, this Jeep is a very desirable color code called Bordeaux Metallic (AMC color code 9P) that is beautiful overall.
Here's my complete disclosure about this Jeep so we can keep surprises (bad surprises) down to a minimal or nothing even. Again, you might find something small not disclosed or something I just didn't know about, but please ask any and all questions you may have prior to hitting the button. It's an inexpensive Jeep in today's market and an incredible value for what you're actually getting. Tremendous potential with minimal work. You can drive this Jeep right away while making your upgrades over time.
- T150 3-speed manual transmission
- Dana 20 dual range transfer case (does engage as it should)
- Mostly original paint with some evidence of partial resprays
- Factory correct visible spot welds throughout the tub
- Original Levi tan seats usable, but in poor condition.
- Needs new tires before driving (one of the tires does not hold air for more than a few days)
- No evidence of collision damage that I can find
- Front shackle hanger reversal for improved driving
- Factory gauges do appear to be working
- Minimal/superficial surface rust on frame, undercarriage and floor pans
- Isolated rust on rear floor behind bench seat
- Missing key for the hard top (currently locked position, but can be opened from the inside of the Jeep)
- Rear quarter panel was repaired in area that commonly cracks from the weight of the rear tire carrier (see last photo)
I'm happy to store the Jeep for a reasonable time after payment has been completed. You're more than welcome to come to Tucson with a truck and trailer, or we can have it shipped. I have a reliable, reasonably priced shipping broker I work with and will be happy to share contact information after the sale.
