Brand new for 1980, Jeep presents the CJ7 Laredo edition! This fully restored off-roader sports a 4.2 liter in-line six, a 5-speed manual transmission and part-time four wheel drive. It is finished in Olympic White and is accented nicely by the gold and brown Laredo stripes. Going with the exterior theme, the interior is brand new and is finished in saddle brown with the factory two tone accents on the seats. It has been upgraded to a Howell fuel injection system which helps it pass California smog requirements. Additional upgrades include a brand new RetroSound radio, USB plug making it easier to charge your phone, lift kit and off-road wheels/tires. This Jeep is great for cruising up the PCH or mild 4x4 session in the desert. Don’t let a blast from the past pass you by! Any questions you may have about the car, feel free to message me. @white.cj7 started her re-birth in April of 2020, when she was sold to the team at Remuda Motoring as a literal box of parts. Shortly after the purchase, a full disassembly and thorough investigation was conducted to determine the best course of restoration. It was quickly decided that, due to the rare first-year Laredo trim and color combination, the only option was to give the CJ another chance to shine just like she did leaving the showroom floor almost 45 years ago. However, the enthusiasts at Remuda Motoring rarely endeavor on a new project without taking some creative enhancements.
For this CJ-7, the team decided to improve on Jeep’s work and sprinkle in some “OEM Plus” additions. The most unapparent, yet significant improvement is the use of later, wide-track front and rear axles. This upgrade comes from a 1983 model and markedly improves the stability and handling characteristics of this CJ-7. Additionally sourced from a 1983 model is the complete drivetrain (which was entirely disassembled and professionally rebuilt) including the infamous 4.2L (258ci) inline-six, a five-speed T5 transmission and the indestructible Dana 300 part-time transfer case.
Complementing the improved chassis is a brand-new suspension kit from BDS Suspension that boosts @white.cj7 2.5” above her factory height. The ride is cushioned by all-new leaf springs and Fox shock absorbers. Brand new BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires mounted on 15x8 polished aluminum wheels send power to the road. Stopping power is improved with all new disc brakes and calipers up front and rebuilt drum brakes in the rear. The brakes are vacuum-boosted for increased stopping power and all brake lines have been replaced with new. Other essentials, such as ball joints, tie rod ends, steering box, steering stabilizer, sway bar bushings, fuel lines, and many more components have been replaced with new.
Sitting atop the revitalized chassis is the refinished but all-original 1980 body. Being a California Jeep her entire life, @white.cj7 was free of rust and any other damage. The body was removed from the chassis and prepped for a professional refinish to include a color-matched, bed-lined interior and a full paint job in the original Olympic White color. Many, many hours of prep work resulted in a near-flawless finish that the factory could only dream of four decades ago. The new basecoat/clearcoat finish was achieved using modern, high-quality paint that will last and protect for years to come. Lastly, original replacement vinyl graphics.
