1980 Jeep CJ Additional Info:
my 1980 Jeep CJ5 4X4 is a true original — the classic rounded-body style and compact chassis that everyone loves, with a brilliant custom orange/matte black paint job that I’ve never seen on the road before (and neither has anyone else, given the looks & comments I get virtually every time I take it out). runs great, LOW LOW MILES on a pretty new engine, body & interior in great shape, big old tires, radio/CD/aux unit w/ front & back speakers, all plastic windows & top accounted for and in good shape, and "bikini top" half-cover included. the ultimate weekend car, beach vehicle, and hobby for the right owner. I loved this Jeep so much I had it trucked cross-country. read on...
it's had 3 previous owners. original owner drove it plenty, but sold it to the second guy with a very new Edelbrock stock 304 engine from another Jeep of his, and it consequently went from a V6 to a V8. third owner bought it in ’06, at which time the new engine had just 3,700 miles on it. he drove it another 600 miles or so, but mostly garaged it at his home in NC. I bought from him in Sept. ’15 and had it trucked out to CA. I've driven it no more than 600 or so miles in the 3.5 years I’ve had it, so it’s definitely got <5K miles on it (I can’t say exactly how many, as the odometer just kicked out at 4,980, which was late last summer, and I’ve barely driven it since, but to turn it over every couple wks). I’ve kept it covered and parked in a carport for the past 3.5 yrs I’ve had it.
2nd owner had it lifted (approx. 2.5”) and spent ~$4K to do it. pair of tow hooks on front bumper.
current set of tires were put on at ~4K miles, so they’re in good shape. Nokian VATIIVA M/T 33X12.50R15LT M+S.
my mechanic is an avid Jeep enthusiast who owns them, races them and works on them for a living. insists the body is in fantastic shape — no evidence of rust or Bondo. but in the past few years I put over $5K worth of repairs & upgrades into it. this includes:
* new driveshaft, fixed power steering
* installed shoulder belts in front seats & lap belts in backseat (note there are only two in the back, which suits the seat width)
* heater repair
* installed Tomco carburetor & pump
* installed two exhaust manifolds
* oil change & new filter (~4,500 mi.)
* replace spark plugs
* starter replacement
* new fuel tank (note it’s smaller than the factory one; <10 gal.)
* new hoses, sending unit, fuel gauge install, headlight switch install, horn, (used) relay
* removal of dual exhaust system, replaced w/ single-pipe w/ new MagnaFlow catalytic converter / Cardone Reman smog pump system* new battery
fuel gauge is finicky and kicks out from time to time. as noted above, odometer not functional presently. easy fixes — I just haven’t bothered since I'm not driving it.
it's passed CA smog (I have the paperwork to prove it). timing has been turned down but it turns over and gets moving just fine after a few revs in a few mins.has to go as I'm moving and it can't come with me. LIFE’S SHORT AND SUMMER’S HERE — DO IT!!!!!!happy to truck it to you, but cost & coordination of a reliable service would be yours. (and no, I won't "front" the trucking fee while you pay the money in escrow; take your childlike scams elsewhere : >) it's located in Laguna Beach, CA.
