Jeep created an undeniable winner when it rolled out the CJ5. Such was the car's appeal that its manufacturer kept it in production for a full three decades while continuing to release new lines alongside it. This 1977 Jeep CJ5 is a great representative of the model - it's an agile mountain goat on wheels and it has fun written all over it. Its sharp exterior features some nice touches and there's some respectable power under the hood to propel... it over any obstacle in its way. While the CJ5 has an extensive military heritage and was designed with a sort of "no-nonsense" functionality in mind, its appealingly rugged demeanor attracted quite a legion of civilian fans over the years. This CJ5 arrives at the present looking pretty darned sharp. Its black paint is in strong condition, with a good shine from front to back and a thorough detailing will no doubt take that up a couple of notches. The close-set headlights have a definite military spirit to them as they sit in a chrome-finished grille that contrasts nicely with the rest of the exterior while bracketed by a pair of KC fog lights with a cowl hood just above to add some distinction. Come around to the side and you'll find another clue that this Jeep was designed for real off-road action - its compact wheelbase contributes to its ability to navigate challenging terrain. A full soft top, bikini top and soft doors are included, so there's plenty of versatility on hand, ranging from open-air mode to a more sheltered driving environment. The vinyl interior has seen some sprucing up and now features BesTop front buckets and rear bench seat, so everyone rides in comfort in this classic. The buckets straddle a generously proportioned center console that provides some lockable storage space for valuables, while just in front of it the shift lever wears a novel baseball gear knob. A billet steering wheel sits on the column, while just in front of it the dash area is also looking sharp - its chrome accented instrument panel doesn't show any serious blemishes. An AM/FM stereo sits at the center and a pair of auxiliary speakers have been mounted on the rear roll bar. Despite the CJ5's relatively modest wheelbase, there's plenty of rear seat legroom on hand. The 304 cubic inch V8 sitting under the hood has the most displacement of any engine offered at the time this '77 rolled out and it's in good form - starting promptly via the pushbutton on the dash and standing at the ready to power this Jeep over any terrain you're looking to vanquish. The power plant exhales into a pair of long tube headers and teams with a 3-speed manual transmission that's shifting very smoothly. When the call of more rugged territory beckons, the lever activating 4-wheel drive sits within easy reach and the feature activates easily - with the CJ5's ample wheel clearance and strong drivetrain, its ability to handle obstacles is substantial. Front disc brakes help bring this classic Jeep to fade resistant stops as it rolls on its set of 15" black American Racing wheels outfitted with Yokohama A/T-S tires. Looking sharp, packing plenty of power and offering undeniable nostalgic appeal, this Jeep CJ5 would be a great acquisition for the collector and off-road enthusiast alike. Call today!
