1985 CJ7 Laredo. 68k Original Miles. Same owner since 2005. Great condition with numerous upgrades focused on reliability and addressing traditional CJ weak spots. No accidents. This is my third CJ and I’ve got more than 25k invested in upgrades/improvements. Always garaged, never wheeled. Never rain or snow. Extremely well and professionally maintained. Regular oil changes, etc. I’ve averaged less than 1k miles per year since I bought it.
Body – Straight and rust free. I put $6,800 in body and paint work about 6 years ago. Still looks great, though has a mark here & there. Full disclosure - front fenders, hood and rear tailgate are fiberglass, so no rust possible (I live in New England…). I went with fiberglass because many of the reproduction panels were of poor quality and bad fits (I tried two different brands of steel panels and the fit was terrible). New windshield frame. Complete repaint. I have a binder of pictures detailing entire process. Frame and floors are in great shape.
Engine/Drivetrain: Original 258 with Howell EFI and upgraded HEI distributor. Runs smoothly in all temperatures and eliminates all of the crazy pulse air emissions and Carter carburetor reliability problems. It’s no speed demon but cruises comfortably at 65 on highway. New transmission installed at 62k miles. New Bosch starter and solenoid. Radiator is new. 4wd works fine.
Suspension – Smittybilt springs and shocks – 2 years old. Rides very smooth. Upgraded front shock mounts to replace weak factory units.
Steering – 2018 replacement of steering shaft (Borgeson), power steering box (Red Head H2 version), steering dampener and u-joints. At same time, hubs were rebuilt and rotors and front pads done as well. Went with heavy duty steering box mount to replace weak factory unit.
Wheels – Mickey Thompson Bead Lock (faux) with BF Goodrich MTR tires. 4k on both – full size spare. Two sets of bead lock rings (black and silver) (Note different ring on spare tire).
Bumpers – Custom front and rear bumpers by Dirtworx. Amazing quality. The cans on the rear rack are not functional. I had a set stolen once and I didn’t want that to happen again, so I bolted these on…)
Winch - Warn winch is brand new, never used. Warn mounting plate.
Stereo – Kenwood Excelon CD head unit with 6 disc changer. Has USB/iphone connection. Sony 500W amp powers Pioneer speakers in back and Clarion speakers in front. JBL Amp powers small Kicker subwoofer. Stereo system was professionally installed and cost $3k alone.
Tops – Includes both hard and soft top, with full and half doors. Full doors were a little rough so I’m having them repainted this week. Hard top definitely has a patina to it but works as it should. Soft top is a Besttop Sundrider bought in 2008.. No rips or tears, windows are still clear.
Interior – Besttop front and back seats and matching center console.
Extras – Jeep comes with:
Complete set of reproduction decals for 85 Laredo. New in box.
Laredo side rails –repainted silver (but never reinstalled)
New master cylinder, proportional valve and stainless steel brake lines. (This was going to be next project. No urgent need. This is $1k worth of parts alone). All new in box.
Box of misc. spare parts.
This is a great CJ. Reason for selling – too many cars and need space for new Land Rover Defender project.
