1971 Jeep Commando DELUXE WAGON Additional Info:

This is a survivor 1971 JEEP "Jeepster" Commando Deluxe Wagon. I am helping a friend list this JEEP who is the third owner. The first was a school teacher who purchased it new in Elizabethton, TN and commuted to school in Johnson City, TN while the second owner was her brother. The current owner acquired it around 2004 and had it painted and the front seats reupholstered and front carpet replaced. The paint is good and of driver quality and very presentable. The vehicle runs and drives and could be enjoyed as is or used for a basis for a show quality restoration. I am not a JEEP expert but I will try to describe it as best as I can. This is the C101 model Commando so called due to its 101" wheel base. It is one of roughly 57,000 Kaiser-spec Commandos produced between 1966 and 1971 with the traditional JEEP nose (before AMC changed the nose and wheelbase in 1972) many of which have rusted away by now but not this one. It features the Dauntless V6 with 160 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque and based on the Buick V6 that GM sold to Kaiser. It is paired to a 3-speed auto with a console shifter, This example is a Deluxe Wagon that features rear sliding windows and more interior trim than the base wagon. The engine in this example is smooth and does not drip or leak any fluids while the transmission goes into all gears and shifts smoothly. It has power steering (but NO power brakes) and A/C which is factory installed. The AC currently does not function (I did not try to diagnose the problem) but it appears that all components are still present but I would say that it probably needs MORE than just a charge. It has received a recent tune up, coolant checked, battery checked and re-manufactured carburetor with original style choke. It starts right up and runs well and rides as an older JEEP does. Power steering works well but the brakes take quite an effort since they are not power assisted and they do pull some to the right. If I were keeping it I would have the wheel cylinders looked at. The key starter has been bypassed so the starter is engaged with a toggle switch (no I do not know the reason). The AM radio turns on and will pick up a station when in range. The odometer reads "07903.9" currently and the odometer works but I do not know if that is 107903 or more.It has one rust area and that is in the cargo area behind the right rear wheel. I have photographed this. Before deciding to list the JEEP, I put it on a lift and inspected the frame and under the body and this is the only major rust. There is some surface rust on the frame but NO structural damage. The mounting points for the body are solid and so are the rockers. I have numerous photos of the undercarriage so please contact me for more photos. The underneath of the vehicle is dry with no leaks apparent. There is one spot of old grease that appears to be left over from where a universal or cv joint was serviced and some grease was slung off.The wipers function as does the heater/defroster blower motor and the headlamps and turn signals work and it has been kept out of the weather during the current owner's tenure.Besides what is noted above the driver's door "drops" a little when opened and could use a shim while the driver's side window regulator is weak.I do have tons more photos including many of the under of the JEEP that shows overall how good condition that it is. Please ask and I will send photos or if you would like to see any particular area.I have a clear Tennessee title in hand and can assist the buyer in shipping although shipping is the buyer's responsibility. Please ask questions and do not assume anything. I will be happy to address any concerns and questions and I have tried to describe the vehicle to the best of my ability but keep in mind this is a 45 year old JEEP and is not perfect. So it has NO warranty implied or otherwise.Since so few Commandos remain that are not rust buckets, the price is firm at $12,500. A $500 deposit through Paypal required within 72 hours. I prefer a wire transfer for full payment but will accept other methods but they MUST be in my account and clear before the title and vehicle are released.
