1983 Scrambler CJ-8needs a complete restoration. Theframeis rotting away and needsto be replaced. The bodycould be saved, but it needs serious floor panwork. I replaced the windshieldglass and steel frame about 3 years ago and the cowl underneath it looked great. The doors don't sag, and the quarter panels are still firmly attached. The frontfenders, thehood and the grill are all solid.
It was on the road until 2016, and has around 120,000 miles on it. It never plowed snow,it was never usedoff road, and was never in an accident. It still riding onthestock wheels.
I took the dash out when I replaced the windshield frame and started working on the floor pan, the original dash pad is in great condition, no cracks or sun damage. The Jeep comes witha bunch of extra usedfactorydash parts, and somenewdash parts. The originaldoor panels and console are all in good shape. It has tanleather Saabseats in it now, but comes with a set of used gray Wrangler seats.I was going to buynew covers, that match the interior, and use the Wrangler seats, but I didn't get that far.
I posted a photo of most of the extra parts in plastic bins. There's a brand new gas tank and sending unit, and a used tank shield all cleaned up and repainted. Some new weather stripping for thehard doors. Andtwo extracomplete hard doors, and two tube frame half doors, all in good shape. There's two extra usedcarbs,There's 3 extra used, but complete stock distributers and extra ignition modules. One Mallory after market distributerand aJacobs ignition module, but they wereremoved and replaced with stock parts, because weldingon the Jeep candamage the Mallory.
Thefiberglassfactory half top andthe steel panelit sits on, behind the seats, the side mountedsteps, the drive shaft, theroll barand the spare tire framethat swings out are all in good shape, and I'm pretty sure they areall the factory bolt onparts exclusive to the CJ-8. The body is an extended CJ-7. So everything from the front bumper to the roll barof aCJ-7fits a CJ-8, except the soft top, it isn't long enough to cover theextended body. I bring this up because the CJ-8 is rare, butmost of it's parts (driveline, brakes, suspension, front clip, and interior) are exactly the same partsused on the common CJ-7. Making them easy to find and inexpensive to buy.
The258 6 cylinder is stock, except for the stainless steelBorla exhaust manifold. It starts easy, runs smoothly, and doesn't smoke orover heat. Butwill drip oil on the driveway the minute afteryou thinkyou fixed it.I blame Jeep/ AMC for the drips by maybe it's me. Thealternator charges, all the electrical parts work, the Automatic trans shifts, power steering box was replaceand the powerbrakes work .
Anyone that's been looking for a Scrambler CJ-8knows they're either hard to find or hard to afford.
I'm sellingit because Idon't have the time to complete it.
