My youngest son is downright MAD at me for selling this one. I bought this about 18 months ago, and we have basically done some basic restoration and coolification. It is SUPER FUN, RAW and just plan FUN... wait, I said that.
We purchased this from a hardcore 4x4 guy. It is mecahnically very sound. He put Dana 44s on it, the lift, rims & tires. To my knowledge, everything works, if not exactly showroom condition. There are a LOT of creature comforts missing on this Jeep... Windows, ventilation, AC, Heat... blah, blah, blah. It's a 66 Jeep man! If you're looking for that stuff, I know where you can get a really nice Hyundai :). Regardless, this vehicle is all about fun, and it does that in absolute spades!
The engine fires right up, I just had the brakes worked on. I don't think there was ever a Jeep built before Chrysler bought them (and they lost some soul) that didin't or doesn't leak fluids of some sort. I hate to say it's part of the charm, but it kind of is. Reagrdless, on the 1-10 Jeep leak scale, this one is about a 2. It seems to leak mostly from the master cylinder. If you replace it, which you can actually do with this vehicle, you may be almost leak free.
The transmission is about as good as you can expect if you've ever driven a vehicle built 50 years ago. It's no Honda 5 speed, but it's an absolute rock crusher and is very solid & sorted out.
The interior is VERY Spartan, but all works as it should. It is about as clean as you will likely find in any other 66'. It has the aftermarket seats, 2 point harnesses (that can easily be upgraded to 3), and a nice looking clean dash, We added the 2 LED Light Strips & they will definitely illuminate your night! There is no Speedometer, or any other real gauges to speak of. This is drive by feel @ it's very American best! Believe it or not, we added a Bluetooth Stereo and the 6x9s, it sounds pretty darn good, even when rolling down the road @ 60. It has a CB radio, we've never really used it.
This Jeep has 3 gas tanks, but only the primary has been used with regularity. The other 2 would need some cleaning to be used.
The paint & body are good from far, but is a little better than far from good. I'm being a little critical, but there is a big paint chip in the hood (see pic) and at one time it must have had a hard top that required a lot of drilling, as there are several very small holes in the top rail where the top was likely fastened... you should be able to see them in the pics.
We redid the rear bumper, and it has a powdercoated mounting shelf that is not pictured, but will be included.
We do have a tow harness included. It bolts up in a matter of seconds so you can town this behind your motorhome, Suburban or whatever. It actually tows quite well. There is also a seperate iginition cut off switch so you can actually leave the keys in it and not worry about it being stolen.
It does not currently have a top or doors other than the bikini in the pics. These can be added quickly and reaonably inexpensively from any number of online reailers.
TO BE ADDED @ NO ADDITIONAL COST @ THE BUY IT NOW: I haven't quite finished the front bumper. My intent was to mount my Ramsey 8,000lb winch on a Versa plate w/ roller fairlead. If you don't know what this is, it's a very cool winch that it mounted on a plate that attaches to any trailer hitch. In this case, the front bumper would have one, but you could move the winch on the plate to the rear bumper as well. IF you buy at the Buy it Now, I will finish and install this bumper so you can do exactly this & include the winch! If you email me for pics of the winch, I can send them to you.
WHY AM I SELLING IT?: Well, pretty simply. I am retiring. I am not using it much, and I am ready to sell my commuter car as well (see my other auctions.) Regardless, you can see in some of the pictures a 4WD Sprinter van that my wife and I are planning to travel the country in. We are planning on combining these vehicles and getting a souless (in comparison) 2019 Wrangler to tow behind it... My GREAT loss, your gain!
I own a company that has a CA Dealer's license. We don't sell cars, but trailers. Long story short, I have Dealer plates that allow me to avoid registration fees. If you are outside CA, it's a standard transaction. I have title in hand and will turn it over with the car. If you are in CA, it's kind of a better deal for you... I will have to sell this car through the dealer license, and we will have to add DMV fees to the price. The good news is that you will not have to go to DMV, I will do that for you (In CA sales only.)
I have been buying and selling on ebay for 15+ years. I take pride in the fact that I have never had anything but stellar reviews both as a buyer and seller. You don't get this without going above and beyond, and underselling/overdelivering. I believe that is what I am doing here. It is an amazing car and the new owner will be extremely lucky... bid with absolute confidence.
Thanks for looking!
