Somewhere between mean trail machine and cool boulevard cruiser lies this 1985 Jeep CJ7 Renegade. With glossy paint, even shinier chrome, and overall rugged 4x4 prowess, this icon can truly do everything and fit in anywhere. And it's hard to do that with any other vehicle for this kind of value price. The CJ7 is the quintessential Jeep, combining the classic upright grille, topless fun, and a rugged but friendly demeanor. The Renegade was the top-of-the-line and it looks the part, especially dressed in a recently applied coat of Mandarin Orange with plenty of bright trim. This Renegade stands out from the crowd with the tubular bumpers, tubular side rails, differential covers, hood latches, large side mirrors, rear light protectors, and 15-inch Dick Cepek wheels all shining bright as new. Best of all, all of these mirror-like enhancements are on components that are functional, too (items like the chromed headlights and Ram hood ornament are just purely because they are cool!) Even the best part of a Jeep's jewelry, the swing-away hatch with full-size spare, has a nice bright appearance. The new tan softop and doors were a great investment, but we all really love it when these Jeeps are open to the world. That's why there has also been money put into making sure the interior looks great and functions like a Jeep should. Nearly everything looks new, including the rugged black vinyl seating. The front buckets are comfortable on the trail, and when it's time to go out on the town, they are sharp. Plus, the rugged black floor mats and tough liner paint on the floor means you can still clean out this Jeep with a garden hose. This one has all the right features you could want, including an AM/FM/CD stereo with aux input for your iPod and a comfortable center console with lockable storage and cup holders. Even the fire extinguisher looks great with its polished presentation. You'll slip behind the grippy sports steering wheel, and the original gauge package is bright and clear against the orange panel - so you always know where you stand, even out on the trail.Under the hood is the correct 258 cubic-inch inline-six motor. It's a long established powerplant for Jeep that has proven its reliability and continues to have easy parts availability. Torquey and robust, this is the engine you want pulling through daily traffic or the worst slop Mother Nature can throw at you. There are even Super 4x4 spotlights to make sure you can always see the way home. The three-speed automatic feeds the Dana 300 transfer case and seriously beefy axles at both ends (Dana 30 front; AMC 20 rear.) Tall gears and low range give it rock-crawling stability, but thanks to the modern Sport King tires, it can cruise easily at highway speeds, too. In fact, with its power steering and power brakes (with discs up front), this CJ 7 is just as comfortable being a city slicker on the weekdays as it is a country climber on the weekends. The CJ7 is an enduring icon that always has a place in enthusiast's hearts.
