1989 Jaguar XJ6 Additional Info:

  • Parts Added/Replaced

* AC/Heater both blower motors replaced.

* AC head unit electronics replaced

* New wood dash on dash glovebox w/ out of stock new in box wood (Looks AWESOME!)

* New tires this season maybe 500 miles on them. * All fluids just flushed including brakes/transmission, oil (always synthetic), and coolant. Faulty self-leveling system fluid was not changed since I had this transitioned to regular gas shocks. All XJ6 this year eventually had the self-leveling system go out.

*Brand new shocks in the front this year, rides like a dream

* All new belts last season

*Fan bearing

*Alternator rebuilt

*New transmission lines after the flush. Lines are known to lose the pressure grips/fittings in time that allow them to stay tight w/ fluid pressure. Suckers were over $400 just for the lines.

*Door handles are a common issue on this year (among others) the good news is they are easy to work on and the main issue is there is a plastic clip that often breaks inside the door skin and I have a box full of them in the glove box that will come w/ the car. Usually happens once a year and they don’t make metal ones unfortunately. Takes about 15 min.

*Headliner replaced

*After market CD player w/ IPOD, HDMI port. Speakers work fine but when turned up loud back ones have slight popping sound.

*Brakes upgraded to drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads. Great setup for a 4k lbs car.

*Two sets of wheels stock 15in w/ conti tires and aftermarket classy looking multi spoke 19 in. wheels, as mentioned above on brand new tires.

* Tinted windows

* Stainless steel rocker panels.

* Replaced antenna which often go bad.

* Can be registered w/ antique car plates now that it is 26 yrs old. Much cheaper!

The Good

The good for anyone that picks up this beauty is I am extremely anal about my car and the work, parts, and fluids that go into it. I have owned this car for aprox 10 years where its original home was in AZ and it only has an original 36-37K miles and I have babied it since day one. With that being said it is over 25 years old and like any car w/ that age does have some minor issues which will be explained in detail below. My goal is to find someone that appreciates these UK based pre-Ford beauties as much as I do.

Car has stock wheels w/ continental tires w/ aprox 80% tread left and currently on after market wheels w/ Brand new tires, maybe 500 miles total. The leather looks better in this car than any of my past, much newer jags. Car drives great! I have struggled with listing it for years for the simple fact it is such a pleasure to drive but I no longer have garage room and must move on. Last year while I was out of town there was a hail storm and my family member had not yet had time to move it in the garage. I returned to find that there was little to no hail damage however a large limb broke and hit the top, part of the hood, and the back trunk. Pretty minimal damage actually but not for me, nothing was bondod or anything but the insurance company fixed all the dentsand repainted everything on the front hood, back trunk and fenders (basically everything but the doors.). The car had zero issues before the storm but I wasn’t complaining that it was all redone. Body shop that did the work is the best in the area and matches extremely well w/ the doors (even I can’t tell). This car has never seen a snow flake in its life, originally from AZ and since I have owned stored in a heated warehouse. Vanden Plas model (highest model they make) includes reading lights in the back and flip down trays in both back seats.

The Bad

  • The dash lights that control fuel level, battery, and coolant just started to go in and out last month. This is a very common issue that is caused by bad soldering joints that break loose over time, in total I have read a fairly easy repair w/ about 2-4 hrs of work tops for a novice. I really didn’t have much of a issue w/ this since the gas tank is aprox 21 gallons and I can easily fill up before needed by looking at the mileage. My mechanic said when he hooked up to read the fault codes the soldering joints are throwing an electrical fault and check engine even though it runs/drives etc fine. The passenger side door only opens from the inside outside is broken but I always just open it inside for my wife or whoever anyway so I didn’t notice until someone pointed it out for me. The original back carpeting in the trunk on the floor was removed when I bought the car, not sure why but I put a similar carpet to replace it. Once in a great while when in reverse and not applying gas car will stall out, giving it a little gas and there are no issues and once warmed up seems to not happen at all. Not sure but may have something to do with me at the time reversing down a very steep driveway. Have had it in to several reputable mechanics and of course we couldn’t replicate the issue but as you can see w/ the rest of my lengthy description I want to make sure the new owner is well aware of everything about this car.

I did not list the basic specs on the car since they are easily obtainable online however if you have any questions at all please let me know and I will be happy to assist.
