Very rare 1976 Jaguar XJ6C (2 door) convertible. Professional convertible conversion by the Richard Straman Company of California. Believed to be the only surviving Straman XJ6C convertible of just a few (single digits) done back in the 80's. Car was in the process of full restoration when the owner passed away. Excellent straight clean body 99.9% rust free with great floors and trunk.. Has brand new stainless steel European bumper conversion and 7" European headlight conversion (from Jaguar Specialties). Good black interior with leather seats, nice door panels and interior panels, full original dash with all gauges. Upgraded with suspension assemblies from an 89 XJS coupe; improved steering rack, upraded 1" front sway bar, recent brakes and 2.88 posi differential with finned aluminum cover in the rear. Both suspension assemblies are from a running/driving XJS- good to use as is. The car rolls nice 15" Jaguar-BBS lattice wheels (with matching spare). Fairly new XJ6 Series 3 fuel tanks included. Car loosely reassembled as a roller- it rolls, steers, and the parking brake works. Have nearly all parts to complete less engine and transmission. Choose your motor and go- 6 cyl or V12 Jag, or GM LS3 V8 power. Whatever way you go you'll have a very unique XJ6C.

This car is located in Campbell California, 50 miles south of San Francisco. It has a clean California title with no back registration fees or penalties. This is a once ever opportunity to have the most exclusive XJ6C out there- this is a professionally built car that you can finish to your tastes.

A little history and a full detailed description are below.

If you are not sure who the Richard Straman Company is, do a Google search on them and you'll be amazed what they did back in the 80's/90's

The Jaguar XJ6C 2 door hardtop coupe was built in very limited numbers between 1975 and 1977. With only 1800 XJ6C cars built for the US market, estimates now are that perhaps 200 are left so these cars are relatively rare. Many XJ6C fans dreamed of a convertible version of the car, but Jaguar never built one. Two aftermarket firms in the UK, Avon and Lynx, produced/converted approximately 20 total cars to full convertibles, but none for the US market. In the US in the 80’s and 90’s, the Richard Straman Company in Costa Mesa California had been doing production quality convertible conversions for the major automakers, such as Camaros for GM, 3000GT for Mitsubishi, 300 ZX for Nissan, and many others. Straman was the expert at this sort of thing and their total production was some 10,000+ units (of all types) between 1981 and 1996. One very little known fact is that they also did a handful (single digits) of convertible conversions on XJ6C cars, and this is one. After much searching on the internet I believe this may very well be the last surviving Straman convertible XJ6C.

This car, VIN UG2J52647, is a 1976 model and was likely converted by Straman in the mid 80’s. Now some 40 years later it is a fabulous project ready for a Jaguar enthusiast to bring back into the most exclusive and unique XJ6C. The car comes from the estate of a long time Jaguar, and specifically XJ6C, aficionado. He acquired it in 2016 as a Chevy 350 powered running/driving car in overall good, but used shape. The goal was to do a full restoration and that project began some time later. There is a pic that shows the car early in its disassembly with the top still installed and in the down position.

Unfortunately, the owner passed away in 2025 before the car could be completed and it is now being offered for sale as a fabulous unique project opportunity for another Jaguar XJ6C enthusiast.

Overall description: To make it ready for sale the car was loosely reassembled into a rolling shell with nearly all major components (except drivetrain) installed. The body has been fully reassembled, the top frame is on and can be manually opened and closed, much of the interior has been reinstalled (front/rear seats, most interior panels, console and dash, all in good shape), the car has full suspension front and rear, and it rolls/steers. The remaining parts to complete the car, less the drivetrain (engine, trans, etc.,.) are in boxes and go along with the car.

It can easily be winched aboard a car carrier/tow truck. The additional parts mentioned in the text below are all in boxes will be handed over to the transport driver at time of pick up.

Body- As with all Straman conversions, this body was extensively braced BEFORE the top was removed. Long sections of 1x3 rectangular steel tubing were installed below each rocker panel and there is a massive steel fabricated X brace that is welded in from the rear of each front wheel opening to the front of each rear wheel opening. Please refer to the pictures to see how massive the bracing is. The body itself is complete and in very good shape with essentially no rust and nearly ready to paint (has 2-3 small dents from bumps in storage and final surface work to finish). The floors are all very sold with only small holes (5/16” diameter) in spots where clamps securing brake and fuel lines from underneath were fastened. The doors and trunk shells are installed and open/close fine. Door and trunk latch hardware is all included but not installed. The car is set up for XJ6 Series 3 door handles (included) and a spare set of Series 2 style door handles are included. The door glass, ¼ glass, and their matching regulators/guides/motors are included and not installed. Note- the door glass regulators have been upgraded from the standard and troublesome original style from Jaguar.

Body upgrades- A new European stainless steel bumper kit and Euro bumper mount kit has been installed (a kit that is typically ~ $3000), a European lower front grill (very rare here in the US as this is a UK/Europe part only) as well as new a European 7” headlight kit, all from Jaguar Specialties.

Suspension/brakes- the front and rear suspension have been upgraded with complete units from a running/driving 1989 XJS. The front appears to have had a recent brake job with newer rotors, etc,.,. It also has KYB shocks and a 1” sway bar upgrade kit. The XJS suspension uses an upgraded version of the original Jaguar steering rack and pinion and the steering is functional. The rear has a 2.88 positraction differential, finned aluminum rear cover, good brakes, and a functioning handbrake. All brake lines are in place. The car rolls on very nice Jaguar BBS lattice15"alloys and there is a 5th matching wheel for the spare. The tires hold air and roll fine but are not current. Besides needing new tires, the suspension is ready to use as is.

Engine compartment- the engine compartment is generally complete with the brake master cylinder, brake booster, pedal box, and all brake lines in place. A good used all aluminum V12 radiator is in place if that is the sort of engine the new owner wants. The front body stress struts ( from the center of the cowl to the left and right upper shock mount areas) are in place.

Convertible top- the top frame, which was professionally built by Straman during the conversion, has been loosely installed back on the chassis and can be opened and closed by hand. The original materials for the top has been removed from the frame (outer canvas/rear window/inner padding/headliner) and are included to be used as patterns for a new top. An upgraded set of top hydraulics from a 1996 Jaguar XJS – top pump, lines, and 2 top cylinders are included with the car.

Interior- the car includes a good condition near full interior (in black) and is missing only carpet and some minor small panels to complete it. The front and rear seats are in good usable shape (leather still reasonably soft) as is the console, door panels, and rear interior panels. The carpet was worn and was removed during the disassembly. The original dash and full gauge set is in place, loosely. The original steering column is in place with its turn signal and wiper switches and original steering wheel. The key for the ignition lock/switch is included.

Fuel system- a set of XJ6 Series 3 fuel tanks are included with the car. These are nearly new and are a typical upgrade for the fuel system on these cars. Some original fuel lines are still in place.

Heating and Air Conditioning- the original Jaguar heater/AC box and matching blower motors and ducting are included with the car. They were removed when the car was disassembled.

Wiring/electrical- all of the standard Jaguar wiring was carefully removed (unplugged) from the firewall on both the engine side and interior side. It is all included and can be reinstalled.
