1964 Jaguar S-Type 3.8L – Matching-Number Engine – Jaguar Factory Documentation
Asking $14,950 or Best Offer
Offered for sale is a 1964 Jaguar S-Type 3.8L four-door saloon with automatic transmission, showing approximately 60,000 miles. This largely original classic Jaguar has been in the same family for nearly 40 years and comes with an unusually well-documented history dating back to England.
The car features its classic Opalescent Dark Green exterior, Suede Green interior with traditional wood trim, 3.8-liter Jaguar XK inline-six engine, twin SU carburetors, and independent rear suspension.
Documented Matching-Number Engine & Jaguar Factory HistoryOne of the most significant features of this Jaguar is its original manufacturer documentation.
Included with the vehicle is an original letter from Jaguar Cars Inc., dated September 18, 1985, identifying the vehicle's chassis number, engine number, body number, original factory colors, British registration, and dispatch information.
Remarkably, the original Jaguar Cars Inc. mailing envelope has also been preserved, bearing a September 18, 1985 postmark.
The manufacturer's correspondence identifies:
Chassis Number: P1B51757BW
Engine Number: 7B52873-8
Body Number: 4B52931
Original Exterior Color: Opalescent Dark Green
Original Interior Color: Suede Green
Original UK Registration: GTW 333B
Original Dealer: Henlys of London
Dispatch Date: September 1964
The engine number documented by Jaguar in 1985 exactly matches the number physically stamped on the engine block today, providing strong manufacturer-issued evidence supporting the car's original matching-number engine.
The same chassis and engine numbers also appear together on the car's surviving period British sales documentation.
Photographs of the actual engine stamping, historical paperwork, Jaguar letter, and original postmarked envelope are included with the listing. The documentation strongly supports the original engine configuration.
British History & Long-Term Family OwnershipOriginally registered in England as GTW 333B, this Jaguar has a documented history extending back to its early years in the United Kingdom.
Included with the vehicle are:
Original 1985 Jaguar Cars Inc. correspondence and postmarked envelope
Period British sales and registration documentation
Jaguar operating, maintenance, and service handbook
Period Jaguar reference and repair manuals
Family photograph from 1985 showing the car with its British registration and dark green finish
Additional historical ownership documentation
The car has remained in the same family for nearly four decades.
Original Survivor & Recent Mechanical InspectionThis is a largely original, unrestored Jaguar rather than a modern restoration. It retains much of the distinctive styling and craftsmanship of these classic British saloons.
The car has seen very limited use over the years.
During the summer of 2026, a mechanic at Randolph Foreign Car in New Jersey performed an oil change and checked over the vehicle. The mechanic successfully started the engine and drove the Jaguar around the block. The brakes functioned adequately during that short drive.
The primary concerns identified at that time were an inoperative right-side fuel pump/circuit and a leak in the left fuel tank.
Additional disclosure: During a subsequent startup attempt, a gasoline leak was also observed near the front of the vehicle. Its source has not yet been diagnosed.
Although the engine has run and the car has moved under its own power, it is not being represented as road-ready. The fuel-system issues must be inspected and repaired before further operation. Trailer or flatbed transportation is required.
The vehicle has also received a new 800 CCA battery during its recent recommissioning.
The exterior shows age-related oxidation, paint deterioration, and areas of rust. The chrome presents well, and the interior retains its classic Jaguar wood trim. Further details are provided in the Condition Description and photographs.
Pricing & SaleRather than undertake a full restoration or recommissioning, we are offering this Jaguar in its present condition so the next owner can determine the extent of the work.
The asking price reflects the known fuel-system issues and additional work the vehicle requires.
Asking $14,950 or Best Offer.
The vehicle is being sold as-is, with no warranty. Prospective buyers are welcome to inspect the Jaguar or arrange a professional pre-purchase inspection before purchase.
An opportunity to acquire a largely original 1964 Jaguar S-Type 3.8 with a documented matching-number engine, original Jaguar manufacturer correspondence, its preserved 1985 postmarked envelope, nearly 40 years of family ownership, and surviving British historical records.
