777 hits, 38 watchers afternoon of Feb1, 2026This is a survivor Jag that has not been registered since 1997, sitting in a garage in north Texas. We have resurrected the Jag by flushing the fuel system and cleaning the carbs, and installing a new fuel pump. We pulled the spark plugs and put oil in the cylinders. Put in a battery and cranked the engine over til we had oil pressure. Installed new spark plugs and now have it runnings very good firing onall six cylinders and not smoking. We have not changed the oil and filter. Then we installed new brake fluid bottles and hoses and flushed the brakes. We had to replace one brake hose. Transmission would not go into park and we adjusted and lubricated the cable. The Jag now starts up decently and goes into gear and park well. Now you can pull the Jag out and back in your garage while developing the car to the next level. This would make pretty straight forward father /son resurrection, or with buddies. The heavy lifting has been done. It left the assembly line in August 1968, and is series 2, 2+2 #7. we call the car 007. It will now start, stop and drive around in the parking lot. Exhaust sounds good!It will drive onto and off your trailer or shippers trailer. It will need to be serviced back to life, as it shows to have good bones.. It will need new cooling system hoses, belts and heater control valve, and new body rubber. Carpet is older, but can wait.. Rocker panels show some rust and repairs. Driver's floor is fiber glassed, for now: it is a boat hull. Lower floorboards are inexpensive and easy to install. I have a new one to go with the car. Brake fluid is bad to floorboards and master cylinders will take their tolls even on Texas cars. We installed a better brake master cylinder and booster and flushed the brake system. Charging system works, good oil pressure. It has headers. It needs all fluids changes front to back and grease all the grease fittings. It needs new tires now, but they hold air for now. The Jag is blessed with nice FactoryTinted Glass! The AC switch turns on the compressor and the fan blew at high speed!Transmission was rebuilt in 1996 w the receipt in the glovebox. By the way, the keys lock the glovebox and passenger door. Drivers door tries to lock but may just need lubricating. It has a new aftermarket fuel pump and filter. Car is complete except for the original jack. Series 2 etypes did not have tool kits. Knock off tool for removing knock offs on the wheels is there, no hammer., but is a presentable Jag!. the car was just painted before it was parked in 1997.It is missing the upper and lower windshield chrome. Handbrake arms have been removed, but come w the car. Park works on the transmission now. The motif bar will need rechroming, but most of the chrome is quite nice. There is the all to common small dent on the bonnet above the radiator. PDR should get most of it.
Over the years, I have noticed that the Borg Warner transmission cars tend to have better original motors than the standard transmission cars, at comparable mileages. It makes sense; the reason for that is the auto cars had taller gears: 3.31 instead of 3.54 in standard box cars. Also the Ford Borg Warner automatic transmissions tend to short shift (an adjustable vacuum regulator helps changing shift points, from Summit Racing) and so the engines have never been revved up to full song. This motor sounds mechanically solid! This is project car, it is 57 years old, is the best looking one available in this price range, and the color is awesome! And it has Factory AC and Chrome Wire Wheels, and matching numbers engine to car! Watch the video with oil pressure building quickly and strong! John's cars does sell a kit to put in a small block Ford if you are so inclined. In the past, I have removed the chrome spears below the door windows on these cars to give them more of a chopped roof look, by raising the perceived waist line on the doors. Consider that for fun. Put a 4 or 5 speed in it and FLY! With a 3.31 diff a 4 speed is sufficient for touring, depending on tire height. You can add a clutch pedal and master cylinder to the existing pedal box on an Etype XKE.I will post more pictures soon.
