1962 Jaguar E-Type Additional Info:

877652 E Type serial numberNotes for the BlurbHighlights:Highly Collectable, one of only 2,086 early production Series I OTS roadstersMatching Numbers Engine & ChassisArguably an excellent example for complete restoration with tremendous investment potentialFactory records indicate that this car is a matching numbers example fitted with the correct ‘R’ prefix straight six 3.8L XK engine and ‘Moss’ four speed gearbox.Features include: • 3.8L Inline 6 motor with 3 SUs • FOUR-SPEED Manual Gearbox • FOUR-WHEEL Power Disc Brakes • CHROME Wire Wheels • LEATHER Bucket Seats • WOOD-RIMMED Steering WheelSeries I serial number 877652 is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. This E Type with triple SU side-draft carburetors was factory rated at 265 horsepower & 260 lb-ft of torque. The earliest E-Types, with their 3.8L XK motors, are considered the sweetest-running. This car retains its original unit mated to the correct and reportedly original 4spd Moss box. It is factory standard.Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers.Other features are the louvered clamshell hood as well as wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, triple windshield wipers, and upswept dual exhaust outlets. This E Type has a trunk rack, decent black soft top, five 15″ wire wheels secured with two-eared knockoffs (and the hammer!), cockpit heater and aluminum dash & console trim. Finished in red over badly dyed black leather original low-back bucket seats, the car needs a complete restoration before it fetches the customary quarter million dollar plus mark of the genuine early E Types. The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level & amperage are located in the center of the dashboard.Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The five-digit odometer on this 1962 Series I OTS roadster shows ??? K miles though total mileage is unknown. Background:There is good reason why the earliest E-Types are the most revered. These cars retained the pure aesthetics conceived by Malcolm Sayer and Sir William Lyons such as the fared in headlights and small rear lights over the bumper. These details were gradually lost after the first few thousand cars. This car, of course, goes one better because it is one of the ultra-rare ‘flat floor’ models.Jaguar did not expect to sell many E-Types, so the early cars incorporate a number of intricate details that proved unsuitable for higher volume series production and were gradually phased out.The term ‘flat floor’ is generally used to identify the first cars that retain all or most of these features. The reality is that only the very earliest of even these cars had all of the original details (such as the OBL Outboard Bonnet Latches), because Jaguar quickly changed the specification as soon as production began. All of which is a long-winded way of saying that this car is rather special. After Jaguar’s utter dominance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans throughout the 1950s, engineers set about developing a production version of their champion racecars. The new car borrowed heavily from the venerated D-Type — Le Mans winner from 1955–57 — including its monocoque construction.Revolutionary in its day, the aeronautically inspired design consisted of a front subframe—carrying the engine, front suspension, and steering assembly—bolted directly to the body tub. This new design not only lightened the car but also lowered its center of gravity for excellent cornering. Also helping with its handling, the rear suspension was fully independent, using jointed axles as upper links and tubular lower links, with twin coil springs and shocks on each side.Four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes were standard, with the aft rotors being mounted inboard, astride the rear differential, for superior weight distribution.Power came from the race-proven Jaguar XK engine, here displacing 3.8 liters and fed by a trio of SU carburetors. The jaw-dropping body by decorated aerospace engineer Malcom Sayer featured a stunningly long bonnet, covered headlights, svelte rear haunches and immediately became a worldwide sensation as the E-Type stole the show upon its reveal at the 1961 Geneva Auto Salon. To this day, it is one of only a handful of automobiles whose significance has been recognized with a permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. This sensational 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 'Flat Floor' Open Two Seater is finished in its gorgeous, factory correct livery of Carmen Red over a dyed Black original L eather interior with a matching folding convertible top. This early production 'flat floor' example also features the desirable welded bonnet louvers, making this the perfect Series I OTS to add to your premier collection. We are proud to offer this exquisite, extremely rare 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires to own one of the very best!Looking for an investment opportunity with tangible benefits?Classic and collectible vehicles have long been a rewarding choice for those in the know. The Historic Automobile Group International (HAGI) diligently tracks values across the industry – today, their Top Index shows an increase of over 400% versus 2009.We are happy to supply you with a more detailed description, answer any questions you may have, or set up a FaceTime virtual walkaround.
