California kept, low mileage E-Type convertible showing only 14,587 miles! Features original V12 engine, automatic transmission, air conditioning, chrome wire spoke wheels, and more! A superb car on the road, and an exciting Jaguar investment! The XKE series Jaguar was an instant success from the moment it appeared at the automotive seen in 1961! As each new generation was improved from the last, it continued to offer more and more to the buyers after the prestigious luxury sports car from England! This included improved brakes, better suspension, superior interior comfort, more significant cooling, and bigger displacement engines! By 1971, the short wheel base offering was long gone in favor of a quality ride, and power steering was now a standard feature. The Series III was born with a V12 with quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetion under the bonnet, and only 7,990 convertible were produced over the entire four year production! We are delighted to offer this 1974 Jaguar XKE Series III convertible finished in Greensand over beautiful Black Leather interior and Black soft top! Options include number matching 5.3L V12 engine producing a powerful 272 horsepower, Borg Warner 3-speed automatic transmission, air conditioning, chrome 15" wire spoke wheels with Michelin 1" whitewall tires, Becker Europa II Stereo AM/FM radio, polished stainless steel exhaust system with proper fantail tip, leather wrapped steering wheel, telescoping steering column, remote outside mirror, and more! Standard options included a responsive 4-wheel independent suspension with matching disc brakes at all four corners, power steering, front & rear bumper guards, and Smiths instrumentation with electric tachometer! This wonderful example is showing only 14,587 miles which are believed to be original from new, although the St. Louis Car Museum was not provided enough evidence to support a true mileage claim. Registration records and former sales listings support this car was formerly owned by a collector in Newport Beach, CA dating back to 2002 who drove the car very sparingly. It would later sell with 13,915 miles to a European sports car collector based in San Antonio, TX in approximately 2012. Upon arrival to our Museum in July 2021, we conducted a full inspection and performed the following services: rebuilt all carburetors with new floats, seals, needle & seats, needle springs, and new jets; new NGK spark plugs and throttle cable; rebuilt and recurved distributor with new cap, rotor, coil, and fresh battery; new a/c compressor clutch and freon recharge; brake fluid flush with new level sensor; flushed fuel tank and lines, installed new fuel sender, gasket, & fuel filter; new door seals; engine ventilation tubes; new air filters, new engine oil & filter, among a few smaller items. At considerable expense, this car was fitted by a previous owner with a complete SU carburetor conversion in place of the original Zenith-Stromberg units. Once warmed up, it runs and drives with great bravado with a pure Jaguar sound through the brand-new Welsh stainless steel exhaust system! The brakes and throttle are equally responsive for spirited drives, or just relaxing evening cruises! Included with this Jaguar will be an original owner's manual, 2 keys, and original tire changing equipment minus the jack. A Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate shows this Jaguar was built in April 1974 and delivered through British-Leyland New York in May 1974. Note: This vehicle is titled as a 1973 model year example likely due to a clerical error during past registration. Please feel free to call with questions or to schedule an opportunity to see this vehicle in person.
