1987 Jaguar XJS
The Jaguar car is world famous for its stylish designs, thrilling performance, luxurious and comfortable interiors, outstanding handling and ride, quality engineering, and state-of-the-art technology. No other automobile manufacturer has been as remarkably successful at creating both the world's finest luxury sedans, as well as some of the world's most beloved sports cars. The founder of Jaguar Cars Ltd. was Sir William Lyons. His goal was to create world class sports sedans with "grace, space, and pace." Lyons once said, "The car is the closest thing we will ever create to something that is alive."
For consignment something to put some excitement into your derriere, a Jaguar XJS. This passenger sports car with its V12 power plant can be a bit of a handful when it comes to pushing you down the superhighway, all in luxurious comfort. A tasteful mixture of gray tones, and English burl, along with some innovative use of technology, and we are going for a ride in V12 British style.
Exterior
Tungsten Gray bathes this cat 2 door from stem to stern. Shiny trim surrounds all the glass, and some extra black trim is thrown in to add some mystique. Dual front headlights flank a thin grille and long hood to follow up behind. The C pillar flying buttresses roll off the roof and curl inward as they slope downward to meet the tops of the back quarters. A thin design for the rear panel and back taillights that emulate the line can curl of the buttresses are bordered on the bottom by a chromed bumper with black rubber inserts. 15-inch wheels in nice condition are on all 4 corners of this night stalker.
Interior
Saville Gray leather covers the passenger seating all showing very nicely with no marks or even creases in the bolsters. Just slight entry wear for the driver's seat, and the rear 2 plus 2 bench remains unscathed. A matching center console races towards the dash and houses the power window switches and fine T shift lever. The dash is all original and presents in gray and black vinyl with a smattering of English lacquered burl. Gray carpet nearly like new covers the floors and a headliner with a small area of sag on the passenger rear can be seen overhead. Also, on the passenger's side at the top of the door there is some separation of the headliner at this juncture.
Drivetrain
An extremely nimble 5.3 Liter V12 is shoehorned into the engine bay. Lucas Bosch provides the EFI and a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission offers up cat like acceleration.
Undercarriage
Rust free, and well-kept much like a favorite toy which was played with the neatly tucked away until the next play date arrives. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners, and a 2.88 limited slip differential is on back.
Drive-Ability
There is nothing like the roar of any 12-cylinder engines with their mini pistons pumping up and down quickly but in low RPMs as it just put out smooth power which went on for a long time. A great high speed cruiser, this car will have no problem keeping up with the modern day pace encountered on many a highway. One note/downfall is we noticed the battery light was on. We didn't test the electrics to determine the cause. However, the car started right up and never left us sit.
A nice used Jaguar sedan/Sports car. No Identity crisis here as it is a wonderful sedan, and a snappy sports car, tasteful adorned in gray black and burl, and a mechanical 12 cylinder to keep you busy on the tune up front. When its right though, its epic!
