Delivering performance that remains impressive even by todays standards, the XK120 redefined Jaguar as a constructor of the finest and most desirable automobiles. Its superb DOHC XK engine propelled Jaguar racing cars to five electrifying victories at Le Mans between 1951 and 1957 and in the United States, the XK120 was an early mount of racing legends including Walt Hansgen and eventual Grand Prix World Champion, Phil Hill. It also powered Jaguars road cars with updates well into the 1990s. Maintaining the XK120s competitive edge in racing and showroom sales, the SE or Special Equipment package raised output to 180 horsepower with high-lift cams and included wire wheels, fog lamps and overdrive. Numbered S676205, this original left-hand drive 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster was built on August 11, 1954 and dispatched on August 30, 1954 to the United States, where it was sold new via Jaguar distributor Charles Hornburg in Los Angeles, California. A highly desirable Black Plate California car, this XK120 SE was purchased from there in very nicely restored condition by the current owner in 2016 and then totally restored to its exceptional present state in 2019 by the longstanding Jaguar specialists at Imports Unlimited of Highland Park, Illinois. During the restoration process, the vehicle was completely disassembled with the body removed from the frame and the work performed down to the individual nut and bolt, with the restoration work addressing all vehicle systems, components and parts. Itemized receipts on file with the vehicle total some $240,000 and thoroughly document all aspects of the restoration work performed. Making a great car even better, this XK120 SE Roadster was upgraded for fast road work during restoration and as now offered for sale, it delivers an incredible and highly responsive driving experience. Among the many careful upgrades, the Jaguar was equipped with Dynamat heat and sound-insulating material and a new pedal box from Wilwood, The legendary XK DOHC engine was totally rebuilt, fitted with rebuilt SU HD8 carburetors, detailed and mated to a competition-worthy JT5 five-speed transmission which unlocks the Jaguars considerable performance potential. A limited-slip rear differential with 3.31:1 ring and pinion provides final drive, with a nice combination for acceleration and speed. Braking is now power assisted with the addition of a brake servo and steering has been updated with electric power assistance. Beautifully finished in Black paintwork, this exceptional XK120 SE Roadster is accented by gleaming brightwork, twin competition-style Brooklands windscreens, a custom black tonneau cover, restored vintage Marchal driving lights and chrome 60-spoke wire wheels with knock off hubs mounting Pirelli tires.
