1969 Jaguar E-Type ROADSTER Additional Info:
You always hear of those incredible barn or garage finds that have been silently hidden away for decades. This is one of those wonderfully rare cars that none of the neighbors knew was there. We found this beautiful car after hearing some rumors that and old Jaguar was stashed away somewhere nearby. After some months, a friend of ours happened by and said, I know where there is an old wood boat for sale. We went to look, and the old boat was just too far gone to save.
Then an old fellow that lived there came out to chat and in the conversation, mentioned he had a Jaguar sports car in the garage. He said it had not moved in almost 40 years. We talked and he agreed to show us. We were amazed to say the least. Seems he had known the original owner and bought it from him in 1977. He set the trip meter the same day he bought it and drove the car 913 miles over the next few months, picking up an occasional speeding ticket here and there. He decided that the bright red color (it was originally red) attracted to much attention and decided to have it painted black.
At that point he removed the interior, all the chrome trim etc. and had the body stripped to bare metal and painted black to a mirror finish. He was happy with the results and trailer-ed the car back home to his little garage to begin putting it back together. While the car was being painted, he also had most of the chrome re-plated and wrapped everything up in newsprint.
He began re-assembling his beautiful black Jaguar Roadster and looked forward to getting her back on the road again. Then disaster struck, and he suffered a massive stroke which left him unable to work on the car, and the years went by with the car setting and collecting dust in that little garage for the next 40 years. After spending some time talking about cars and life in general, he and his wife decided to let us rescue his beloved Jaguar.
The car is in amazing condition with all of its original sheet metal and body panels, floors etc and all inrust free condition. It is a numbers matching car with all of its original interior, top, wheels, engine etc present. We found an as new tonneau cover wrapped up in the trunk that had never been installed by the first owner. We unwrapped the chrome trim etc for the pictures.
It appears that everything to re-assemble the car is present. The tires were flat when we first saw the car and although they look good now and hold air, they are the originals and should be replaced. All the glass is original too and looks good. The door glass and mechanisms are installed in the doors and operate as they should. The top is also in decent condition and the top frame is still shiny black.
The reason the original leather seats look so good, is that he wrapped them in blankets and put them in his den on the couch and never moved them. They look amazing! The mufflers etc were taken off when the paint work was done and set along side the garage where they rusted away. The gas tank looks good, but was empty of course.
We turned the engine over by hand and hooked up a battery, and cranked it over with the starter a few times. We then squirted a little gas into the two carburetors and the old girl fired right up.We did not attempt to do anything further. The car should be thoroughly sorted and all systems checked out and restored as needed.
This is an honest matching number car with an original 51,465 miles since new. Here is an opportunity for you to own one of the highly sought after E-Types. We are going to list it here on eBay just once, and at NO RESERVE. Sincere and capable bidders only please. Yes the title is clear. Yes the car is being sold as-is. The last picture is showing it the day before we washed off 40 years of dust. The car is being offered locally at a much higher price than the starting bid, so you may not want to linger.
