1968 Jaguar E Type Roadster
Up for auction is this rare 1968, One year only, E type Roadster.
The short history of the car is that 2 service men friends were in England in 1968 and one bought two 1968 E Type Roadster’s, one white and this blue one. When they returned to the US in 1969 my friend’s father begged his buddy to sell one of them to him and one year later in 1970 he agreed to sell him the blue one (this car). He drove and enjoyed the car for approx. 25 years and then the car was parked after spending most of its life in Florida. Sometime around 2007 my friend decided to have the car completely restored for his father so the car was transported to an E type restoration shop and work began. The matching numbers drive train was removed and the body was covered and left outside. The engine was completely overhauled, bored, line bored, new pistons etc. The transmission and rear differential were also overhauled at a cost of approx. $23,000.00
The project then stalled. The body was very good to start with but being outdoors for 10 years in Florida the leaking car cover allowed water in and rusted out right and left floor pans. The inner rockers are solid along with a perfect drive shaft tunnel. The integrity of the car is very good as the doors open and shut very well. The trunk floor has minor rust in the front where the water had pooled. From my 40 years of E Type experience I would section in a piece of metal and retain all of the original welds. I can easily stand in the trunk with no problems and is structurally solid. The quarters are rust free.
I pursued this car for 7 years until my friend came to the realization that his father was just too old to enjoy it. I have been buying and restoring E Types for 40 years and this is one of the most original ones I have ever seen. All matching numbers and most of the engine compartment and wiring under the bonnet is as it left Jaguar in 1968. All sub frames, picture frame, bonnet support and bonnet are in near perfect condition with no collision or rust damage other than a minor area to the bonnet belly pan. You can still see many assembly line chalk marks and inspection numbers from the factory.
I have temporarily installed the drive train back into the car for transportation purposes “ONLY” in order to make it a roller. I want to be VERY clear it must be removed for the restoration of the body.
I have been a pre purchase inspector and stated value appraiser on Hagerty’s website for 15 years so I strongly encourage serious buyers to inspect the car before bidding or have a qualified pre purchase inspection done. With this being said I encourage questions to be asked by phone only as E mails can be misunderstood or misinterpreted. My name is Mike and I can be reached at 813-961-7836 Tampa FL. I will be happy to answer all questions. Again no Emails, phone calls only. I have a clean Florida title in my name.
Due to this cars originality I have over 3000 detail photos for research and authenticity purposes as a guide for my 5 other E Types.
The car rolls and steers easily and it is 90% assembled. I will carefully pack all extra parts and work with the shipper’s to make it as easy as possible.
I have set a very reasonable reserve as I want this car to go to a good home.
I am listing this car for a friend. Please call Mike with all questions. No Emails. Thanks
