1990 Jaguar XJ6 Base Additional Info:
PLEASE NOTE - The last two winners did not ever pay. Please do not bid unless you are serious. I really need to move this car ASAP! Thanks
You are bidding on a 1990 XJ6 sedan. While it has numerous issues (listed below) it runs and drives well. I have owned this car for two years and use it as a daily driver. It has never failed to start and I have taken it on a number of trips with no issues. I am moving out of the country so reluctantly need to sell as I cannot export to my new location.
The interior is in good condition for its age and it does not have any major rips in the front seats which is common for these cars. As stated earlier, it runs and drives well. It gets pretty good mileage (around 25-26 mpg on the highway with the cruise control on) for a large car. This was a local vehicle to southern Connecticut from new and is currently located in Greenwich. I believe I am the third owner.
On to the known issues (in no particular order):
- Needs rear shocks/springs - this is not an air suspension car so not that big a deal
- Has the FF44 code which is most likely the O2 sensors
- The ABS does not work
- The A/C does not work (the heat does). You should note that this car uses R12, so would need to be converted to R134 in order to fix. May need as little as a fill of refrigerant but I have not diagnosed
- Paint on the roof is faded. It appears to have had one repaint at some point so the other panels are pretty good
- There is some rust in the usual places. I tried to capture pictures for them
- The headliner is sagging (all Jags of this vintage have this problem)
- Center console leather is separated (see pic)
- Fuel fill cover hinge is broken
- Slow leak somewhere for the power steering so has to be filled every couple of months
- Passenger side rear bumper extension needs to be replaced. It is on the car but not attached to anything. Somehow it doesn't fall off
- The dashboard lights just failed yesterday. They had been flakey a couple of months ago and I believe this is only from the dimmer switch based on preliminary diagnostics
- Front brake calipers and wear sensor need to be replaced
- The auto seat belts do actually work. I leave the fuse out because I can't stand them and use the seat belts manually. I mention this because the parts for this system are hard to come by
- When the outside temperature is warm and the engine is warm, the oil pressure gauge will show low pressure at idle. This is most likely a sensor issue as that is a common problem.
- The sunroof leaks when it rains hard
- The interior courtesy lights don't work, nor does the sunroof. I did some diagnostics on this, and it appears to be a bad ground but I was not able to finish tracing it.
- Two of the radio pre-set buttons don't work
It sounds like a long list but nothing is all that big. If you are not familiar with older Jags or are not mechanically inclined, this is definitely not the car for you. This is my fourth XJ from this era and they are very reliable and maintainable but only if you do the work yourself. There is great parts availability at a reasonable cost but these cars are prohibitively expense if you take to a mechanic.
Please note that CT does not issue titles for cars of this age, although I do have the title from the PO.
Vehicle is available to view/test drive in southern CT by appointment. Please email with any questions. Sold as-is with no warranty. $250 deposit required at close of auction with balance by cash or PayPal only. Buyer is responsible for pickup. Thanks for bidding
