1978 International Harvester Scout Additional Info:
For sale is my 1978 International Scout II. I recently purchased this truck but my wife says I have too many projects so it's gotta go! Starts and drives great, ew paint, ew tires. Here is what I know about it:
*Engine is the original 345 V8 with a Holley 2210 2 barrel carb. Was professionally rebuilt about 3 years ago and has had very few miles put on it since. Engine just purrs, ons of torque.
*Transmission is the original Borg Warner T19C 4 speed manual with the desirable wide ratio gears. Shifts perfect.
*Transfer case and locking hubs work as they should.
*Tires are 32x11.5 BF Goodrich tires with almost no miles on them.
The previous owner started this restoration but ran out of money and spare time to finish it completely. I found a receipt showing he paid Maaco $1900 to paint this Scout, ut it looks like an amateur finish to me. If you are interested in show quality you will have to repaint it but if you just want to drive around and have fun it's fine the way it is. As you can tell by the engine photos this is an original CA truck and has the smog pump, vap cannister, nd all those vacuum lines. Everything is there so if the buyer will be registering this in CA it would pass the visual inspection. The only indication of rust I found I took pictures of. The frame around the cracked front windshield has some bubbling under the paint. There is a rust hole behind the drivers front wheel at the bottom of the inner fender well (very common with Scouts). The tops of the rockers have some surface pitting that was painted over. Still everything is very solid overall as you can see by the photos the floor pans are rock solid, s well as the fenders, ockers, nd rear quarters.
When I bought the Scout it had a bikini top on it and was kept in a garage. I put the pictured top on it since I don't have a garage. The top is in fair condition with some dings and surface rust. I also have the interior panel for the top's sides and the top tailgate.
This Scout has tilt steering and the Rallye steering wheel. I'm not for certain but likely this Scout had the Rallye package (steering wheel and stripes) from the factory.
You can daily drive this Scout just the way it is but it still needs some items addressed:
*Cracked windshield
*Speedometer is not accurate (bounces around like crazy)
*Seats need new upholstery and dash is cracked from many years in the sun
*Windows go up and down but need new regulators
*Needs windshield wiper arms installed (which I will include)
*Needs side view mirrors (previous owner removed the large side mirrors before the paint work and planned on installing smaller mirrors)
I'm sure there are more items that will need attention, ut I can tell you that it's mechanically in very good condition and all of the expensive work has already been done. Call or text me if you have any questions prior to bidding. Thanks for looking (520) 403-6412
