Currently located in Irvine, Southern California - The Scout has a very cool story, it’s had one owner since 1973 - From the factory it came with an 4.2L inline six with manual transmission, and was used as farm truck most of its life. Primarily used in Northern California (Sacramento area), the owner past away and it was left to the family in San Francisco, subsequently they had no use for it and later sold it. I have most of the original maintenance documents since the late 70’s. The Scout was originally orange but unfortunately was repainted red at some point during the 90’s. My initial intention was keep it, have it restored, and use it as a daily driver here in Southern California, hence the enormous amount of effort to restore it. I have gone above and beyond a regular build as you can see by the details.
The reason for selling - Circumstances and priorities change, the wife and I have decided to downsize everything, so that we are able travel for the next year and plan for a baby... therefore very reluctantly she must go to a new home!
Please bear in mind it DOES NOT come with a roof, so is being sold as a convertible. It’s a rare factory rear wheel drive scout, (great for cruising up and down PCH, great MPG! It can easily be converted to 4x4 if its a necessity for the new owner)... If I were to keep it there are some other tweaks/modifications I would do. i.e. Anything Scout autometer gauge conversion (original gauges are not hooked up), a custom six point DOM 1.75’ roll cage, custom front and rear bumpers, weld in new rear leaf carriers to shift the rear axle back an inch (or do a quick fix of 6deg wedges), re-fit the manual windows and door trim panels, Delete the Suburban factory fuse box with wiring harness modifications for cleaner look, add a stereo…. Having said that, as it stands, the scout is very usable, runs and drives very reliably. Plus above all gets SO MUCH ATTENTION EVERYWHERE, PEOPLE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
