1980 International Harvester Scout Additional Info:
After 10yrs of owning my 1980 Scout, I’ve decided to let it go to someone who will enjoy it more. I’ve owned/driven Scouts since the early 90’s. This is far and away the best Scout I’ve ever owned. This truck runs and drives great and is very reliable. It’s reliablitity is partly due to the TBI system that I installed on the 345V8 almost 10yrs ago. It’s been custom tuned by Hamilton Fuel Injection. This truck has never let me down and starts every time no matter how long I’ve let it sit.I stripped it to bare metal back in 2013 and gave it an amateur paint job at best. No rust had to be patched on the body. I did source a perfect liftgate and a really nice hardtop as the original ones were beyond my ability to fix. The windshield frame had no rust. I did repair some dents, expected in an old Binder. All body mounts are in good shape. Doors shut well and have new weatherstripping. The rear cargo floor has some surface rust that I converted using POR15. The inner fenders and front floor area have also been treated.Again, this is an amateur paint job with imperfections. I would say it’s better than a 10 foot paint job, but not much better.New front windshield with new gasket. Also, new gasket around rear window.Another upgrade I made to the Scout is a hydra-boost brake setup from a Chevy Astro van. These brakes are as responsive as a modern vehicle. All the gauges work, but I disabled the oil pressure gauge when I installed a mechanical gauge. This truck Has the best oil pressure of any IH V8 I’ve ever had. This truck still has the one year only Dana 300 transfer case. Also has 2.72 axle gears which make this thing a sweet cruising truck. It tracks smooth and straight at 70mph with ease. The 4spd close-ratio transmission shifts smooth and the clutch was new in the Spring of 2015. I would hazard a guess that there’s less than 2000 miles on the clutch. The wheels are the factory, one year only “Polycast” wheels. The front seats are from a Midas edition Scout and have swiveling bases. The material is still available to have them match the original rear seat. The a/c is complete and works. Granted, it will never cool as well as any modern a/c system, but it does work.It could stand a set of tires. The ones on it now have great tread, but they have some age as well.As with any old truck, there are still things to do. Some tidying up here and there would really make this Scout pop. I travel with my work, so the Scout sits way more than I like it to.I will require a $500 deposit through paypal at auction end and full payment within 7 days by cash or cashier’s check. The Scout is located in northeast Oklahoma, about 20 miles from Tulsa.Feel free to ask any questions.Buyer is responsible for any shipping expense. Thanks
