The 1976 Royal Sierra!

In spring, 1976, Mrs. Lema Foster and her husband, Tuffy, spied this '76 GMC on the lot of Morris & Sons GMC in Union City, TN. Intrigued by the gorgeous Yuba Gold & Frost White color combo, they inquired more about the "Royal Sierra" emblems on the front fenders and attractive seat cover that didn't look like the ones on other trucks on the lot.

The salesman explained that this GMC was a cousin to the Chevrolet Bonanza, and only around 500 were being made. Mrs. Foster really liked the extra options the Royal Sierra package offered, especially the factory air conditioning. The pickup was going to be Lema's daily driver to the Brown Shoe Company she worked at in town, so she had the final say on the purchase.

Because she worked so close to home, the Royal Sierra didn't accumulate many miles. After Tuffy's untimely passing in 1978, Lema had an additional vehicle, so the '76 GMC saw even more limited duty. Driven often enough to be maintained, the old GMC stayed with Lema through the decades. Maybe that old pickup truck just reminded her of good times with Tuffy...

The decades flew, and by the late 2010's, Lema was well into her 90s, and no longer driving her beloved '76 Royal Sierra. The truck was now maintained and owned by family, and we believed it stayed with them until Lema's passing in 2022, at the age of 99. The '76 GMC passed hands another time in Missouri before we had a chance to purchase the truck this past spring with just over 77,500 miles on the odometer. It spent most of its life in the Union City, TN area, and doesn't appear to have ever seen salt. Yeah, that's still the original Goodyear spare mounted in the bed, and the factory AM radio still pulls stations in well.

Is this a perfect truck? Absolutely not. But, damn, she's an honest one, gang. Even one original Power Beam headlight still shines on the passenger side, and the truck hasn't been smoked in since purchased new. The red oxide primer still shows on the undercarriage, too. You'll enjoy tinkering with odds n ends on this one, while still being able to enjoy it. I'd love to have the next owner toss an AC belt on it and let us know if it blows cold after charging it up!

Pump the gas twice and she pops right off. The 350 is quiet, and the truck holds excellent idle. It could use some tuning, but as shown in the videos, the truck drives very well at highway speeds. We feel like around 90% or more of the paint is factory, with a couple spots of touch-up showing in the exterior video below. All glass except for the rear window appears to be the original tinted PPG glass.

As hot as these square body pickups are, it's sure refreshing to see a unique model like the Royal Sierra. As you'd expect, we've been enjoying this truck over the summer and it gets TONS of compliments whenever we're on the road. You will, too.

Friends from out of state: you will ultimately have to set up shipping, but we have several suggestions for shippers you can use.

A $250 non-refundable deposit is due immediately at purchase. The balance is due in full within 3 business days of the listing's end, paid via wire transfer originating in the United States. We cannot accept checks of any kind, including cashier's checks. Within 24 hours of receiving full payment (typically within the same day), we will FedEx Overnight your clear title, along with a Bill of Sale. We also include another labeled FedEx envelope for you to return signed copies of the Bill of Sale and WI Buyers Guide. Once those are received back to us, we will release the vehicle for transport.

As stated above, shipping charges are buyer's responsibility. We will assist a buyer with shipping the car anywhere in the United States from zip code 53560, but will not be responsible in any way for claims arising from shipping damage. We assume no responsibility for damages incurred after the vehicle leaves our possession. We are not affiliated with any shipping carrier. Any claims or other communication regarding shipment of vehicles will be between you and the shipper, not with the seller.

The terms of sale shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Wisconsin without regard to any conflict of laws or provisions thereof that might indicate the applicability of laws of any other jurisdiction. The venue for all legal proceedings shall be in Dane County, Wisconsin.
