This custom one-ton 1989 GMC Sierra 3500 crew-cab 4x4 pickup was delivered new as a long-bed 4×2 pickup but received a frame-off rebuild a few years ago and total costs exceeded $150,000.
This beast is powered by a Vortec 6.0-liter V8 engine with a Brian Tooley Stage 1 cam, a factory GM computer to control it, and breathes through ceramic headers and a custom dual MagnaFlow exhaust. The cooling for the engine is supplied by an aluminum Entropy radiator with dual electric fans. It also features an on-board Viair air compressor, Viair air tank, air horns and an Odyssey battery.
Power is backed by a built 4L80E automatic transmission with an NP205 transfer case which is cooled by a heavy-duty Derale transmission cooler with an electric fan. It is equipped with a steel front driveshaft and a 5-inch rear aluminum driveshaft, along with a Dana 60 front axle and a GM 14-bolt rear axle (both one ton) with 5.13 gears in both the front and rear axles. Stopping power is provided by huge Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes with hydro-boost. The steering is hydraulic-assist from PSC.
The suspension sits on a custom Offroad-Designs 4-link with coilovers at all 4 corners with approximately 10 inches of lift. It is also equipped with Reid Racing steering knuckles, as well as Offroad-Designs raised HD crossover steering with front and rear custom splined sway bars. The rear axle features a heavy-duty axle truss. The front and rear 4 link bars are super heavy-duty bars and Heim joints. This truck also features King 2.5-inch coilover shocks with bypass and removable King nitrogen-filled bump stops at all 4 corners. All suspension was custom-fabricated and installed by a top-notch professional off-road shop. The frame and chassis were painted black with new nuts and bolts and all-new fuel and brake lines.
This one-ton rides on custom 20x10-inch aluminum Vision Cheyenne wheels that were ceramic coated with Cerakote and wrapped in massive Michelin XForce tires measuring approximately 41 inches tall, along with new Warn lockout front hubs.
The exterior has been repainted in factory Bright Blue, while the bumpers, grille, exterior mirrors and side-tube step bars are painted gray to match the wheels and interior. The exterior also features a billet front grille, custom-designed and machined badging and GSI billet door handles. All exterior lighting was converted to LED and features all-new window and door seals, as well as tinted windows with lifetime window film. The inside of the bed has a spray-in bed liner with a BedRug kit on the bed floor, a tailgate converted to bear claw latches and a paint-matched SnugTop locking bed cover over the top.
The interior features front and rear late-model bench seats wrapped in gray leather with armrests, consoles and cup holders, along with brand-new carpet and floor mats, a suede headliner with Suburban overhead console and a brand-new GM dash pad dyed to match. It is also equipped with Dakota Digital gauges, a Billet Specialties steering wheel, billet shifter arm and pedals. All interior lighting has been converted to LED. It is also equipped with all-new ashtrays, floor shifter knob, windows and lock switches.
The audio system is a work of audio art that was fabricated and installed by Creative Audio in Springfield Missouri. The head unit is a RetroSound Bluetooth unit that looks like a stock GM radio from the 1980s but has all the modern features of a new radio. The amplifiers are manufactured by Wavtech and they power a 12 inch Wavtech subwoofer and very high-end Focal component and coaxial speakers. The subwoofer box and speaker kick panel mounts have been professionally built and wrapped in matching gray leather. The whole audio system runs through a JL Audio digital signal processor which makes tunes sound crystal clear. The audio system is amazing and was built to not take away from the overall stock look of the interior.
The air conditioner blows cold, the heat blows hot, the 6.0 engine purrs and there are no leaks or issues with this truck. The interior is perfect and the exterior does have a few minor blemishes/rock chips. This amazing truck wins awards at car shows all the time. It's a big bad truck that’s reliable and drives and rides very well. Where ever this truck goes, it’s a hit.
