1941 GMC AFKX Series 4x4 COE Dump Truck – Mercedes Turbo Diesel – Rare Military-Style Heavy Duty Truck – Clean Title
This is an incredibly rare 1941 GMC AFKX Series Cab Over Engine (COE) 4x4 dump truck. These heavy-duty GMC trucks were built during the early years of World War II and represent some of the toughest commercial and military-inspired trucks ever produced. Finding one today is difficult—finding one with a functional dump bed and a diesel conversion is even rarer.
HistoryThe GMC AFKX Series was designed as a heavy-duty commercial truck capable of handling demanding jobs in construction, logging, mining, and municipal service. Built during the early 1940s, many trucks in this family shared components with GMC's wartime production, making them exceptionally rugged and overbuilt.
The cab-over-engine (COE) design allowed for a shorter overall wheelbase while maximizing cargo capacity, making these trucks popular where maneuverability and payload were equally important.
This truck has been tastefully updated at some point in its life with a Mercedes-Benz turbo diesel engine, providing a unique blend of vintage styling and more modern diesel reliability.

This truck is an outstanding restoration candidate or patina preservation project.
The body retains decades of honest wear with beautiful natural patina throughout. There is surface rust, dents, scratches, and age-related imperfections exactly as expected from an 80+ year-old working truck. Overall, the cab is remarkably complete, and many original components remain intact.
The dump bed appears complete and is still mounted to the chassis.
Inside, the truck retains much of its original character while reflecting the diesel conversion. The dashboard, steering wheel, controls, and cab have the authentic industrial appearance these trucks are known for.
Engine & DrivetrainThis truck has been fitted with a Mercedes-Benz turbo diesel engine. The conversion appears to have been completed years ago, and from what I can see, everything is hooked up.
However, I have not attempted to start or run the truck. We simply have too many filming projects underway at the shop to spend the time getting into this one. It should be considered a non-running project until the next owner performs their own inspection and commissioning.
Frame & ChassisThe heavy-duty GMC chassis appears solid and retains its original industrial character. The truck sits on its original heavy-duty running gear and is an excellent foundation for restoration, preservation, or continued modification.
