This 1954 GMC Series 100 Half-Ton 5-Window Pickup is a beautifully restored classic that blends the timeless look of GMC's Advance Design trucks with thoughtful modern upgrades for improved drivability and reliability. Originally an Arizona truck, it benefits from the solid foundation typical of southwestern vehicles and has been carefully updated with quality components throughout the build.
Power comes from a Chevrolet 350 V8 long block, breathing through an Edelbrock 1406 Performer Series 4-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake manifold, and SBC blockhugger headers. Ignition is handled by a Street Fire HEI distributor, delivering dependable spark and performance. Cooling has been upgraded with a Brothers GMC radiator paired with a Zirgo electric cooling fan, helping ensure reliable temperature control whether cruising around town or out on the highway.
The engine is paired with a GM 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission, offering smooth shifting and the benefit of overdrive for relaxed highway driving. A Gennie shifter and Lokar components complete the drivetrain setup, while power is transferred through a Patterson Driveshafts steel driveshaft to a 3.42:1 rear differential sourced from a 1986 Camaro, providing an excellent balance of acceleration and cruising capability.
Handling and braking have been significantly upgraded with a Heidt's Hot Rod Shop Mustang II front suspension system, including upgraded upper and lower A-arms and crossmember. The truck features power rack-and-pinion steering and a Heidt's 11-inch front disc brake conversion, paired with a Classic Performance power booster and proportioning valve. These upgrades dramatically improve the drivability of this vintage pickup, making it far more comfortable and confident on modern roads.
Inside, the truck has been fitted with an '88 Camaro steering column, ididit steering column adapter, modern electric windshield wipers, and a full American Autowire wiring system throughout. Instrumentation is handled by a TPI Tech Instruments black 6-gauge set, providing clear modern gauges with a clean, classic look. The truck rides on 15x7 Vision Rally wheels, a perfect match for the vintage GMC styling.
A Vintage-style air conditioning unit has been installed, though the plumbing and wiring will need to be completed in order for the system to be fully functional.
Altogether, this 1954 GMC 5-window pickup represents a well-sorted build that combines classic truck character with upgraded power, suspension, braking, and electrical systems. It offers the iconic look of a mid-century GMC truck with the mechanical improvements that make it enjoyable to drive and cruise today.
