This truck was purpose built for my family to pull a trailer for BLM and off grid camping. We spent over two years building this truck with the belief we would keep it forever. Of course, life had a change of plans for us, so now the truck is not being used. It's not the best feeling to have this awesome rig sitting and not being regularly driven. For this reason, we are putting it up for sale.
To my knowledge, this truck spent its life at a nursery in Oregon moving plants and soil. I picked it up from a guy who was going to perform a massive modern truck conversion on it but decided not to because of how nice of a truck it already was. The odometer had something like 64,000 miles or some low number like that. After looking over the truck it was totally believable. The frame, running gear, body panels, floor pans, door and fender corners all looked to be in good condition.
I went through almost all functional aspects of this truck. This includes the powertrain, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, interior, and extra personal details. The 454 has been replaced with a new GM crate HT502 with all new accessories including full serpentine system. Exhaust is Dougs headers into stainless pipes with stainless Gibson mufflers using V-band clamps for easy disassembly. Cooling system includes Aluminum rad and pump with the largest Spal brushless fan available. There are Derale oil coolers for the engine, power steering, and trans.
The fuel system has a new tank selector and a crossover pipe so you can fill both tanks from either side. A Carter lift pump for low pressure and a Nitrous Express dual pump surge tank for the EFI. The truck was set up and tuned with a carburetor initially. The Holley Terminator stealth system with Dominator ECU was put on next. We built this truck for going off grid so there are many backups to this truck. The carb can quickly be swapped over, and the trans can be shifted manually after switching to a manual control module.
The trans is a 4L80e stage-3 with billet converter built by Chino Hills Transmission. Behind it is the NP205 with a JB twin stick conversion. If the rear drive axle were to go out, we could now use the front axle independently. Behind the transfer case is a gear vendor unit to turn the 4 speed into an 8 speed. A second crossmember with heavy bracing has been added to the back of the transfer case to better support the larger drivetrain and prevent twist. A B&M ratchet shifter sits next to the JB twin stick. The B&M has a button on the handle to activate the gear vendors. Its so much fun to drive.
The chassis has been gone through with new heavy duty leaf springs, Offroad Design (ORD) shackles, bushings, and grease bolts. I put helper air bags all the way around. There is a dual Viar air compressor system. It fills a 5 gallon tank that fills the helper bags and has an air tool service port so I could air up tires or use air tools on the go. The truck sits about 2 inches higher than stock. All new Moog steering linkages, Borgeson Gear box, shaft kit, and pump. There is also an ORD steering box brace for insurance. All brake lines have been replaced with stainless steel line and hose. New GM hydroboost with lines and master cylinder. The wheels are just stock steelies with new tires for now.
The electrical system is nuts. Something like a 200 amp Powermaster alternator with dual Odessey PC1500 batteries. The batteries are controlled by a BlueSea ML-ACR solenoid, absolutely amazing. One battery is for the main support systems and the other is for accessories. When charging they are combined and when not they are disconnected, thereby reducing possibility of being stranded from dead batteries. There are heavy 150amp power jump blocks at the front and rear of the truck for powering accessories like a winch. The stock harness was replaced with an American Autowire update. I upgraded the power windows with all new 10 gauge wire and an external 8 relay block for easy maintenance, No more slow windows! All lighting has been upgraded to LED including Phillips headlamps. All the bed lights are sweet United Pacific units. Dakota Digital RTX gauges and a Redarc trailer brake controller. There is also a super clean sounding stereo system using elite high end components from Arc Audio and Addictive Audio. This stuff is loud and clean sounding while not being a power hog. Every electrical component has been wired using fuses and circuit breakers along with high quality new wire and thick heavy cable
The interior just has a basic refresh. Dash, seat covers, painted door panels with new trimmings. I went nuts on the flooring though. First a complete covering of sound deadener over the entire floor. Then heat shielding on the firewall and trans tunnel. Then heavy carpet pad underlayment topped with a molded vinyl floor. The seat covers are pretty nice Cordura canvas, really tough. I upgraded the HVAC to a complete Vintage Air surefit system. The interior of the cab is relatively quiet and doesn't get all hot like a stock truck would.
Wonderfully preserved body with a solid driver quality repaint of the factory colors. There are some scratches and scuffs hidden at the back of the cab and front of the bed. There are two dents in the right front fender. The front bumper is from MOVE with all the beefy upgrades and additional 4 point mounting braces. The flatbed is super heavy duty with thick steel tubing and plate steel floor. There is a B&W turnover ball for gooseneck or fifth wheel and a 10k hitch for bumper pull. The truck originally came with these matching metal bed sides that interlock and are super heavy duty but also super heavy. I made some lighter wood/aluminum ramp bedsides to use when towing off the gooseneck.
Almost all parts are new within the last three years and are major name brands, not cheap knock-off parts. At this point the truck is fully functional and can be driven long distances. The Holley Dominator system should be tuned to maximize the performance of the engine and trans. The truck is a beast and can pull 10k lbs all day long. Unloaded, you can cruise on the freeway at 75 mph and get 10 mpg. Its such a pleasure to drive.
The truck only has 1500 miles since we put all the work into it. There is so much more in the details that is being left out of this writeup. The truck will come with both bedsides and some boxes of extra parts and accessories like ducting for the cold air intake. There is also one box of the off-grid back up parts like the carburetor and manual trans module.
With just the cost of the truck and parts, not including labor, we have spent over $65,000.
The truck is registered in Arizona and no smog is required. If the new buyer would like to keep the truck registered in Arizona that is possible using a third party DMV registration service.
Buyer is responsible for shipping/picking up the truck.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this and that this truck finds a good home with an owner who will use it often.
