It's February 27, 1989 and I am sitting at the local GMC dealership building myself a new pickup truck. 33 options later...and what you see here is the result of not being able to say no to any but one option offered by General Motors at that time. Of the 34 options that were available...this pickup truck has every single option BUT the clearance lights. I ordered it on March 20, 1989. What we have here is the 1989 GMC Sportside Sierra SLE 1500 1/2 ton pickup truck that I took delivery of on May 15, 1989. It is completely loaded and in totally original condition. In absolutely fantastic condition! Every single thing remains original to this very day. All original paint. Nothing has ever been repainted. Nothing has ever been in the rear bed. It has 5084 miles. Yes...five thousand eighty-four original miles. I have all of the documentation for everything that has ever been done to this truck. On June 20, 1989...I had the trailer hitch installed. On June 22, 1989...the truck was "Ziebarted". Rust Protection. Sound Deadener. Paint Protection. Fabric Protection. Mileage was 110 miles. On August 3, 1989...I had the local auto interior shop install a clear plastic matt completely covering the carpeting in the truck. This truck was purchased to exclusively tow a well-known 18 foot legendary speedboat. Overkill! Sometimes you just have to show off. When we sold the boat on May 1st back in 2010...the truck had 5015 miles. Hasn't been driven much since then. It has lived under cover in a heat and humidity controlled garage it's entire life. It has never been rained on. It has never been driven in the winter. We just had the local old car specialist go over every single thing on the truck. He replaced one of the batteries. All of the fluids have been thoroughly drained and replaced. We have the list of everything he did to it. He also pointed out any imperfections he could find. The paint on the manifold is flaking off. The tires are the originals and are closing in on 35 years old. The wheels are not perfect. Typical GM wheels! The air conditioning needs to be recharged. He didn't have the proper type of refrigerant. I was not converting it. There is a very minor spot inside of the bed where the paint has chipped off of the caulking. The radio does not work. They had problems with this radio/equalizer/cassette package when it was new. This truck has literally dozens of coats of wax on it. No one has suggested buffing it out or doing anything to the exterior. The interior is absolutely perfect. The Ziebart can be easily removed. I had no intention of taking it off. It's partially responsible for why this truck has looked so good for this many years. So...there you go. I've had the truck looked at by numerous car aficionados. "Rarest of the rare" is what I hear most often. One of the most desirable pickup trucks over the past few years and not one person has ever seen one with this many options or this low mileage before. Impossible to duplicate!
