1979 GMC Caballero/El Camino -- Additional Info:
This 1979 GMC Caballero has that classic early final-gen El Camino style but with a rarer look. And this example even has everything you want, like upgraded V8 power, an overdrive transmission, and an A/C interior. Best of all, it's offered for an affordable price.
The GMC Caballero has an instant appeal because we see far fewer of these than their El Camino siblings (GMC made less than 6,500 examples this year.) The burnt orange and camel tan combo looks period-correct, but you'll notice a nice gloss in the sunlight that tells you there has been an investment in quality later in life. So this one has an appeal that goes beyond just rarity. These final generation Caballeros/El Caminos have a particularly sleek and sporty design with a hint of classic style. The smooth roof is even a bit reminiscent of the three-window coupes from the '30s. Plus, it has great classic American brightwork everywhere you look, including the chrome bumpers, grille, Rally wheels, fender flares, and bed rails. And keen eyes will notice the upgraded cowl hood. It hints at the upgrade underneath (more on that in a moment.)
The interior tan coordinates nicely with the exterior tan to deliver the look of a thoughtful classic inside and out. This has a great classic atmosphere with everything from the classic pattern inserts in the door panels, to the AM radio that's still cranking out tunes. But this one also doesn't miss out on features that make it a terrific cruiser. You have high-back bucket seats, a grippy steering wheel mounted on a tilt column, and the factory A/C is blowing nice and cold.
Under the hood is a great upgrade. The 350 cubic-inch crate motor is fresher and more powerful than what was stock on this GMC. Plus, the V8 inhales deeply with an Edelbrock 600 CFM four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with authority as headers add power while feeding the rumbling dual exhaust. The transmission has been upgraded to a 700R4 four-speed automatic. When this overdrive unit is combined with cruise control, you get a classic built for highway enjoyment. This is furthered by nice driving features like power steering, power brakes w/discs up front, and the Caballero's car-based suspension that delivers a sedan-like ride.
Style, rarity, and all the right upgrades combine to deliver an irresistible package. So don't miss out on this Caballero. Call today!!!
