1937 GMC COE Additional Info:

1937 GMC (COE) Cab Over Engine

This Truck is a GMC, Model F16C, Cab Over Engine, COE also known as a Forward Control Unit. The truck is a true cab over, as the engine shares cab space and is covered by a fabricated Doghouse

Most, if not all, of the pre-World War II GMC’s trucks were built by The Yellow Truck & Coach Company for General Motors. (see the badge on the passenger side)

The Cab and Bed are mounted on a late model (P30 series) Chevrolet chassis powered by a Big Block 454 cu in Chevrolet Engine linked to rebuilt Turbo 400 Transmission equipped with a shift kit and Lokar Shifter.

The bed, running boards and rear fenders have all been fabricated. The Bed is two 1937 Chevy pick-up beds. The bed flooring is old reclaimed barn wood from Kentucky, with redwood side rails from a farmhouse in northern California. The Dash gauges and seats are all original. The steering wheel rear fenders, headlight buckets, taillights and horn are from an unknow early 30’s or 40’s vehicle. Brakes are power disks in front and shoes in back. Reverse spindles and flip kit provide for a 4-inch body drop. The 37 sits on Six (6) Goodyear Eagle P22.5/60R 16 tires and wheels. All wiring was replaced with a Ron Francis kit and accessories. Twelve-gallon aluminum gas tank and electric fuel pump feed the big block. Duel electric fans with large aluminum radiator and transmission cooler with fan keep the 37 cool. Late 30’s fog lamps serve as the directional lights in the front along with the rear fender brake and tail lights. An additional arrow type directional lamp is mounted to the rear bumper for show.

Other dress-up items include, hat holder, 12v access port, two vacuum cab fans, battery jumper terminals, original key with push pull start, vintage cab clearance lights and tach and amp gauge.

The 37 is registered in California as a 1937 GMC with original 1937 California Commercial plates. Title is clear and registration is current.
