1979 GMC Jimmy Sierra - Trailering Special Additional Info:

You are bidding on my ’79 Jimmy. This is a very good vehicle that I’ve owned for about 6 years. It is a rare 3-speed manual transmission with a granny low gear.I bought it as a project vehicle for my son and I, and we worked on it while he drove it daily through high school (wanted him to learn how to drive a stick shift). But he’s now off to college in another state, and its time for it to find another home. We’ve put over $15k into it and countless hours.Below are some of the details of what has been done.

Engine & Transmission (work done in last 5 years)

-305 V8 Chevy (not numbers matching)

-Headers with fiberglass wrap

-Holly 650 carb

-Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold

-Transmission rebuild

-New shocks and steering stablizer

-2” lift kit (springs in front, blocks in back)

-33” BFG Mud Terrain tires (75% tread left)

-Aluminum wheels

-Rear drum brakes rebuilt

-New front brake pads

-New exhaust system

-New Warn hub locks

-Valve job (3 months ago)

-New radiator and hoses (3 months ago)

-New battery (3 months ago)

Interior & Body

-Removed and cleaned ductwork and rebuilt HVAC system (AC blows nice and cold)

-New HVAC control panel

-Instrument Cluster Rebuilt – new Tachometer

-Good original dash pad, no cracks

-New window rubber seals all around

-New door weather stripping

-New headliner

-Doors and quarter panels have LMC truck sound deadening material applied to inside of steel – doors shut solid and don’t rattle

-LMC sound deadening material new on entire floor

-New floor insulation and carpet

-Stripped, rebuilt and repainted center console (these alone are worth $500 on eBay)

-LMC kick panel speakers

-All new exterior light housings, lenses, and bulbs (headlights, blinkers, side markers, taillights)

Items that might need attention depending on the buyer

-Needs a new heater core.We put in a new aluminum unit 5 years ago, but it only lasted 2 years – currently its bypassed

-Driver’s side seat has some tears in the upholstery (passenger and rear are good)

-Radio works fine with kick panel speakers, but cassette deck doesn’t work

-Rear tailgate window regulator has a skip in it, but works fine

-Body and paint are weathered, and there is some rust that may need attention soon – we liked the patina look, so didn’t do anything to the body.I got a quote to flat-clear the patina and seal it for $1000 but never did it.

-Fiberglass roof also needs refinishing eventually – this can be tricky to get right. An affordable solution I’ve employed is having a professional apply white bedliner on the top.I did this to another Jimmy that I have, and it works great.

-Speedometer doesn’t work – think it’s where the cable goes into transmission, but haven’t spent any time chasing that down.

-Carpet is new (last 5 years) but does show some spilled drink stains – should clean up to brand new appearance if desired.

-Lower doors and stereo head unit area were cut for speakers and a DIN style radio at some point in the vehicle’s history. We’ve installed LMC lower door carpet panels to cover. For the head unit steel, we had a donor vehicle that had the original knob radio cutout, so we cut it out and installed over the DIN cutout so we could put in a “factory” knob radio, which is currently installed and working

As I said, this is a very solid truck and can immediately be a daily driver.Starts immediately, drives smoothly around town, or at highway speeds, blows cold AC (we live in South Texas – a must!), keeps rain out, can take off fiberglass top and have a convertible (we did this a lot), and it turns heads and gets lots of compliments. Still, remember that it's a 40 year old vehicle, and not perfect. I'm selling as-is, so please do your homework. If you can't see it in person, I can take it to a mechanic of your choice to have it gone over (at your cost) so you can get an independent opinion. I can provide more photos and answer questions as needed. Thanks for bidding!
