This classic GMC Sonoma will bring back memories for many of us. If we didn't own one, or its brother the S-10, we probably knew someone who did. Well cared for from the beginning, this one has spent much of its recent life resting in a garage in Tennessee. Refreshed inside and out, this truck looks and drives like a new one.
The Sonoma has always been a good-looking truck. Sporty and solid. "Like a Rock", as Bob Seeger put it, but also "Professional Grade" because this is a GMC. This one was brought out of storage with less than 73,000 actual miles on it and made to shine again with a first class, base coat/clear coat repaint in factory correct colors. A hood scoop and those classic Cragar SS mags add a muscular look to the body and new trim parts really sharpen the details. New parts up front include the grill with the GMC letters standing tall, turn signal lenses, and a sweet set of fog lights below the new bumper. Down the side, the wheel well and body side moldings were also refreshed and look great. The attention to detail can really be appreciated when you see that the window moldings have been replaced too, providing a nice tight seal.
The low miles and being stored inside really preserved the interior on this truck. A few replacement pieces include one expected part, a new dash pad. However, in another nod to attention to detail, the headliner and stereo speakers were also replaced. A nice center console divides the front bucket seats that are covered in cloth upholstery which is super clean and looks sharp with the striped pattern that carries through to the door panels. As an extended cab model, there is the flexibility of using the area behind the front seats for a secure storage space, or by folding down those unique, side facing rear seats, for a couple extra passengers. The 4 spoke, tilt steering wheel feels good in your hands, and the controls for cruise, heat, A/C, power windows, locks, and the stereo are within easy reach. The interior looks great, feels great, and makes driving a real pleasure.
Under the hood is a 4.3L Vortec V6 that has proven itself to be a reliable and powerful engine. It also received some TLC when brought out of storage by getting new rubber in places like the injector seals, gaskets on the valve covers, the water pump, and even ignition components, to keep things running well and staying clean. Of course, the battery is new, but in another effort to go the extra mile, a fresh gas tank and fuel pump were installed to complete the attention to detail on the engine systems. A 4-speed automatic transmission works nicely whether you are cruising down the road for pleasure, or cruising down the road for work. The control arm front suspension works well together with power steering and power front disc brakes giving this truck nice drivability, while a leaf spring rear can handle a pretty healthy payload when called on to do so.
Freshened up and ready to report for duty again. Come on down and check this truck out. You'll see why it was always such a popular model. But hurry, it probably won't last long!
